how does one fix bsod when u cant access windows. do i go to bios?

try accessing safe mode n see if recovery console or somethin similiar could help

if u installed xp n still have the disk, then try the repair option.

vista/7 use the repair option on startup n see if that helps.

you could always install windows again using a different partition or folder, that way u dont have to delete ur files, but ur prog wouldnt b there. then delete the old windows installation. u got alot of options to backup files tho

bios wont help, unless u were tring to overclock or something.

when does the blue screen pop up n what is the code. what windows r u using.

i would never recommend upgrading to vista, and i wouldnt buy/install 7 on a old pc (not sure what u have)

it kinda looked like that.
everytime it happened i was on teh net. actually ive had it before. but i was able to restart it back up. now it just starts up the windows xp scroll bar and 2 seconds in it flashes the bsod

edit im using xp basic 32 bit (im a cheap bastard) i tryed teh recovery mode and all the other options on screen.nothing worked. i even tryed safe mode

the error code is the stop code.
gv3.sys is a obsolete centrino processor driver, i dont have ne knowledge of that u may want to google them.

ok so i havent tryed popin in the disk yet. how does that go pop the lil badboy in and it should start up with something i think ill give that a try

Start the computer, and right after the BIOS screen, keep pressing F8. When the different boot options for Windows come up, go down to the one that says "Do not restart on boot failure" or something like that.

When it blue screens, write down the code and tell us what it is.

There's always a second line. See the pic you linked to before? See where it says "gv3.sys"? That's where it'll say what causes the BSoD.

Put in an XP disk and recover it using that. That's the best I can suggest.

You have a quad core q6600 and you're using Windows XP 32-bit? How much ram do you have in that system?

2 gigs its not a fantastic mobo
so when i get a new mobo ill upto 4 gigs

Naw I was just asking. If you upgrade to 4 GB be sure to upgrade your OS to Win7. XP will see the 4GB but utilize less.

32bit OS's can only use ~3.75GB.
64bit OS's can use all of the RAM you have (up to, I think, 64GB or something).

ram limits for 64bit windows 7 are based on the version you install sooo

Starter: 8GB
Home Basic: 8GB
Home Premium: 16GB
Professional: 192GB
Enterprise: 192GB
Ultimate: 192GB

i'm curious though, why would you ever need 192gigs of ram?

yea if i wanting a gaming rig 64 bit is teh way to go. specially if im gonna be starting it off with 2 gig ram.
im going to install the nvidia version. i just need to wait till i get a external hdd of 500 gigs. and ill use UBCD to get the fils i want from my hdd

for a server you'll probably use Windows Server 2008 R2
which can go to 2TB ram

(the Enterprise, Datacenter and Itanium-Based versions that is
