iPod hard drive question. and some others

if i upgrade the hdd in my ipod would i have to upgrade the battery as well? 

also is there anything like jailbreaking for regular ipods?

well i was really into the iPod hacking scene,.. but its totally dead now. I mean the forums have pretty much moved onto iPod touch. They still have the old interface hacks which u can try out.
