Hey
« on: March 01, 2010, 02:57:35 PM »
Hey all! I have a quick question... I put 3 Blue 5mm leds into my controllers dome and for some reason they are not working. I have tried countless resistors and just plain wiring it straight to the power and ground. Anyone know what's up with that? Help is appreciated!
Info: THE LEDS

WHERE I WIRED THEM

Ok. you have 2 problems there.
1. You have your ground and + Mixed up on your diagram.
2. The Xbox controller is only giving off 3v and your using 5v leds.

The Xbox controller has 2 AA  1AA = 1.5v,   AA+AA =3v

In these Photos im using a 3.3v 3mm blue led.

Sorry Pics are so big didn't feel like resizing lol

Directly to battery with 3.3v led

Hooked up to those points with the controller turned off. With the positive and negative switched from your diagram.

Led when controller was turned on

When controller was turned on but ROL was on sry cant really see the led that well in this pic

Idk how to get the leds to light up brighter because the only leds iv hooked up to a controller were rumble activated and that gave off enough power for for the 3.3v leds but what im guessing what you can do is get some lower voltage leds and try it again.
Hope this helps.  good luck :D

Thanks guys. I knew something was wrong when I found out the battery is only 3 volts. It sucks because at my radioshack they only carry 5mm blue leds which run 5v in... :[

I hate to say this, but eBay has the best LEDs for modding. You can find 0603, or my favorite, 1206 LEDs only on eBay.

Whats the difference between 1206 and 0603?  Are 1206 alot brighter or something?

The number refers to the size of the LED, meh I use 1206 because I mod mainly 360's, 0603 is sorta pointless, you have space EVERYWHERE in the 360 for 1206. Brightness,  yeah a little bulit brighter

SN!P3R I have one doubt

The 1206 leds requires the same voltage that 0603? I say this becuase blue leds 0603 smd i have requires 3V-3.4V and when the battery is slow they blind less

Yes they have the same voltage and they get dimmer because after some time the batteries can't supply 3v anymore. it happens with any size leds.

you must check the voltage rating when you purchase them. 1206 and 0603 of the same color can vary in voltage requierments

Yes by all means check the ratings the LED uses before buying. What I'm saying is that I use 1206 for 95% of 360 mods, I say 95 because I used 1206 for a ROL swap on a 360 controller, which was a :censored:. 1206 is just my personal preferance.
