Modding a gamepad case (My first mod ^^)
« on: March 09, 2010, 09:52:14 AM »
Hi guys,

I've always been interested in electronics and I like doin that stuff at school.

Now I wanna get some practice in building circuits, etc.
But I don't wanna start with my PSP cause it's too risky.
So I came up with the idea of putting some leds in my old gamepad case.

And I really need some help with calculating the resistors and the power source cause the information from school doesnt help me much at the moment.

So, if I put let's say 5 leds in series with a need of 2V and 20 mA, is one resistor in front of the leds enough or does every led need a seperate resistor?
Or would it be better to use the leds parallel?

I really wanna get into electronics cause that's one of things I would like to do as a job later, and I need some pracitcal experience to train soldering, etc.

Hope you can help me  :w00t:

If you do a Google for something like "LED resistor wizard", it'll point you to a wizard that'll tell you exactly what you need to do. Outside of that, all you'll need to do is dive in. Crack open that game pad and start crawling around with your voltmeter to see where you can leech power from. Experiment.
