i was wondering how much electricity peoples houses use and what they pay for it. as im wondering if our house is using more than most people.

the reason this started running through my mind is because we are thinking of getting a solar panel system installed and were told it should on average house cover 75% of the electricity used but when we found out how much we use and did the calculations it only covered like 17%

we use 16,508 kWh/year paying £2,321.16

so what do you use.

i am not responsible for what i do or my advice

Honestly, I don't really know, but we try to use as little as possible (but it's a 1930s house and the wiring is all messed up so sometimes we get less electricity than it says it is giving us.

I would go with solar as apposed to wind mainly just for the fact that is something I or you could do. I woud assume a crane and permits wuld be needed for wind driven devices, although I too know little about them.

idk its hard to tell, and multiplying your quarterly is not that accurate, we if you use electric for heat and cooling maybe...It is 100 F outside, and 73 inside so my ac has been working all day. in the winter though we dont use half the electricity because what little heat we need we use natural gas for. but for the sake of this thread, this month i used

1,228kwh and it cost 166.48.....or 14,736 at $1,997.76 but like I said thats not truly accurate, its based on a continuance of probably the highest month of the year

thanks bud i dont feel as bad now lol.

as for what to go for i think you been in texas would benefit more from solar as its very sunny there. also the good thing about solar is they are low maintenance as there is no moving parts. all you have to do is wipe them down from all the muck every 6 months

yea but solar power is best when its facing the sun at a specific angle. so i only get 2 to 3 hrs of optimal useage. ima wait till they release the better solar panels(the ones now only capture a little of the light spectrum. the newer ones will increase the efficiency by 50% or more)

also u dont need a crane. just pulleys.now u can just mount it on ur roof. but id want it on is like what they use on high tension towers. itll be about 40 ft tall. and no i dont need a permit.
i thing 40 ft is a bit much. i might just need less just enough to get past teh majority ground turbulence.

we have a very effient roof (but teh installers completly f***ed up teh roof. we are in danger for our lifes from blackmold growing. if anyones intrested ill explain in my next post

and we have a high effecency ac unit. i think its a 2 stage or something.
but we use alot of ac. it gets 105 out side on a daily basis. also we took down a tree in the back so we have less shade to the west so that side gets warm. we have very big windows in my house. the front windows are quad paned. and the rear are surprising... 6 panes. but the electricity isnt a surprise.
1 plasma as living room tv. with a powerful 7.1
1 lcd and ps3 on all day ( little brother) with a 7.1 surround sound.
my lcd with xbox on for 8 hrs a day.
my pc(500 watts) with my 5.1 surround sound.(stays on when im conscious and at home)
my moms pc is on all day, or stand by. my parents have a tv in there room also a lcd but its only on at nifght when moms going to bed.
we have a electric oven and electric stove top.
1 fridge out in the garage and one inside.(outside one has to work hard in the summer.)
utilitys like dish washer and clothes washer and dryer and fans.
my dads lappy in teh living room while hes watching tv.

we also have solar screens on all the windows.

also matt check teh vids in this link.

In florida to stand up a tower of that nature, you will need a permit. lol, and I dont know if I would personally try to stand it with pullies. but IDK never been to texas.

Not sure how much we use as a whole but my room generally has 15-20A being used constantly... =D I'm not allowed to see the electricity bill, though. I think we're on one of those budget things where we only pay a set amount each month.
