good brands, places to buy, tuts etc.

wacom offer the best quality and have a variety of models ranging in prices from reasonable to rediculous

i'm no stranger to photoshop, and only used a graphics tablet on 3 or 4 occasions.

Wacom is a good brand, I agree. Don't feel you have to have a massive board, a small one is fine and works just as good.
