windows 7 external hard drive question

okay i have windows 7 and i just got this western digital external hard drive. i plugged it in and it said it was installed sucessfully and it reads it under devices and printers but when i go to my computer its not on there and i cant access it or put anything on it plz help thanks.

Same happened to me on vista but when I changed to windows 7 its all good... maybe try this cause this is what i did with windows vista. download and install this http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=17882 if that doesn't work try plugging it in a diff comp IF that doesn't work lol check it out in disk management see if it recognizes it and format it..

Every single brand new drive needs to be formatted before you can use it in a computer...

Disk Management in Windows sees unformatted drives. Mac and Linux see unformatted drives natively. Windows does but has it hidden in Disk Management.

it wasent brand new it was a older i was usin with xp andstopped when i swiched to win 7 and it wouldntlet me format it
