Can I just use conductive glue for other controller mods?
« on: August 05, 2010, 03:31:52 PM »
Well can I?
I am really hoping so as I am scared :censored:less of using soldering irons and stuff.
And what I mean by 'other controller mods' is not just rapid fire installations nut stuff with LED's and stuff like that?

Not very realistically.
Unless you are willing to hold it in place for hours while it dries and do one component at a time.
It works with intensafire because it's flat and all that has to be done is keep it close to the board and that's it. So it's not going to go out of place while the glue is drying.
The only LED mod I can think of where glue would be an option is a ROL change, and even then you'd need an iron to remove the originals.

Sorry, man. Glue's just not that good for these style mods. Look in the tuts section if you're unconfident at soldering or don't know how and there's tutorials on how to do it.  :yess:

Good luck with any mods you do, though!

you can, just take care not to short anything out. remember there is no difernce (other than strength) between a solder joint and glue joint, so your conection points are still like bare wires, and if touching anything, it will cause a short.

so, yes, if you have the paitence as mentioned above, sure you can

yes you can use glue but once it dries im pretty sure its really hard to get off without ripping a pad. so basically if you mess up with the glue its harder to fix then using a soldering iron. also you can use a blow dryer to make the glue dry faster but DONT GET IT TOO HOT or it could mess up the board. i suggest you learn to use an iron get a 15 WATT iron from radio shack for under 10$ when your just beginning and practice. when i practiced when i was was new to it i always did it on important things now i have about 4 broken ps2s and other stuff laying around. so use it on an old motherboard or something. when you start to get really good get a better soldering iron for 50-100$ that wont get old fast like the radio shack irons. always use very thin solder and always use flux for the very small points and the points were you cant get with plain solder.

EDIT: you do not NEED flux on installing rapid fire into the xbox 360 controller if you use a pic chip and use the normal points everyone tells you to use.

lol, learning to use an iron will make life much easier.
+1 practise makes perfect.

Buy a cheap iron and some smaller precise tips will make it easier. Make sure the iron is up to temp first then you can just touch the joint momentarily. You will screw up a few times so practise on an old calculator or phone. If you want to get into modding then you really have to take the plunge and start soldering.

It will open up lots of opportunities for you.
