So I just fixed an xbox that I thought was an Arcade but when I try to recover my gamer tagor create a new one it says you must select a storage device but there is no storage device to select.  Do I need to get a HDD or can I use an external drive or something?  This box is currently only going to be used for netflix so space isnt really an issue.  Thanks

you can use any flash drive or storage device but you only get 16 gb to use on it

 I tried to use a 1gb flash drive but it couldnt find it even for audio files, ill have to check another one, my usb ports might not be as good as i think they are haha

you need to set up memory unit in system setttings

Yes as Famas said go to your settings and go to memory its going to read it and start to install it and then it can be used

I tried it with my 1gb flash drive and it didn't work but maybe I was doing it wrong or my usb ports are not working, my last final is in 45 min then ill prolly work on it and make sure I'm doing what you mentioned.

say you click select music does it recognize that the flash drive is in the xbox and 2 have you tried all ports including the  on the back?

I went and checked and I can view the drives for streaming so that shows that the drives are working.  It just it just isnt reading.  I was hoping to bypass buying an xbox drive but I may be out of luck.  I htink I have a random HDD that I might be able to hook up to the top SATA port.  If I do that is there anything special I need to d oto allow me to save onto it?

i might be able to give you a hdd if you need it its 20gb my xbox broke so i dont neeed it.

That might be something I would be interested in, what might the terms of that be? if I take a while to respond its because I am gonna be visiting the parentals most of next week starting tomorrow and free time might be limited.
