Missing sync button on new model controller
« on: January 02, 2011, 01:50:00 PM »
I bought a controller from Ebay that is missing the sync button completely even the solder points are gone. Can someone please help me find another spot on the controller board to solder to so the controller will sync. Thanks
BTW when I plug it into the charge and play cable all the lights on the controller go out and it wont come on again until I unplug the cable. Just info incase there is something else going on here.
TIA

Personally...I think you are wasting your time on that board. Not only is it missing the sync button but it turns off by itself. You would be better off buying a working board on ebay for like $10.

If i could find a working board for that i would buy it. Thanks for the advice but i would like to repair this one. I do have another controller that doesnt come on at all that has the sync button on it. I wonder if just putting the button back in place and soldering it will make it work again.

I wish i could tell you it was that easy. Ive been repairing stuff for a very long time now and usually when a controller shuts off by itself, its a very hard fix.  If you replace the sync button on that board, it still is not gonna work correctly because the sync button depends on those solder traces to hold it in place.

Lol heres some pictures of all the extra boards i have. Most of them have the problem with shutting off by themselves. It usually requires the replacement of the chip on the back of the board. But im to lazy to take the time to do it....

listen to crazy, if there is no sync button someone already tried to repair it (unless there is a new rev without a sync)  if a controller shuts off automatically there most likely a short that pulls the power supply down to an unusable voltage.

you need to make the controller stay on befor you should worry about sync. look for shorts or wierd behaviour in you potentiometers or mechanical parts to start.

sounds like someone already gave up on this board, and used the sinc button to fix a difrent controller (using the one you have for parts)

pictures please....also, where did you get this board?

I agree with Matt. This board was an already failed attempt. But.....

If the controller only turns off due to charge cable, then you could just keep it on batteries. Dont bother trying to fix that. Its probably a short you wont be able to find.

As for the sync button, if the pads are gone then forget about fixing that too. Instead, your best bet is to short the SYNC trace to ground to get it to sync one time. There are controller PCB pictures on here somewhere. Just take a real good look at the trace/via/IC leg for the SYNC button. Stick the board into the bottom shell only and slap the battery pack in. Take a very small wire and jumper the SYCN trace to ground while syncing your Xbox.

Outside of that, the cost to fix this controller in labor would exceed the value of buying one brand new. And thats skilled labor .

it should. the sinc button pins are the two center ones the outside two are the mounting posts. either way short to ground touch together should do it.

@ crazy, is that bulk kulled boards from china?
