Replacing the R trigger

I just bought a new PSP.. only to discover that everything works perfectly, except the R trigger will not respond =(
Can anyone give me some advice or help on how to fix this?

hmm thats weird the r trigger is attached to the d pad is it brand new? if you have a warranty take it back. if you cant do that open it up and see if the r trigger button i dont what its called has slipped out

i opened it... and guess what i found. Pixi stick dust  I tried cleaning it and it won't work still.. =/
I got it from some one at my school for 50$, so no returns lol

has it got custom firmware on if so this could be the serious issue if not the button isnt a button its a flexible cable wire run a piece of wire across it to bridge the connection

If everything works other than the trigger, it could be a few issues the right trigger is not conected to the dpa its a small ribon cable with a contact par under the button, yes dust and dirt could affect this. it works like any other button. it is an open circut that needs to close to activate the button so to test, jump the button terminals wiht a piece of wire.

also try to delete and reinstall the fw alot of times these issues are firmware related.

you probably wont need to, take it apart first you just have to take off the faceplate to access the r trigger, clean if off really good, and if that doesn't work reinstall the firmware to repair your flash, if that doesn't work like matt said it's open circuit, so you just close the circuit and test if it works, if it does work, then you need to buy a new ribbon, if it doesn't, it's your flash.

Actually the flash is a big problem for PSP's, it gets corrupted all of the time. Dirt isn't always a factor in a button not working.

Yeah, my psp needs reflashing but the Pandora broke due not being used for 2 years.
But its probably the ribon cable not being attatched, because the fist time i play around on my psp the dpad stoped working because when i put it back together the cable wasnt in properly although it looked like it.

Alright, im going to have to give this all a try, but how do you reinstall the firmware? (im a noob -_-)

Lol, my psp has the same problem and it needs flashing, but I cant be bothered. And I have opened it to check.
