psp UMD drive problem
« on: March 02, 2011, 06:48:25 AM »
ok my psp phat has some problems with the UMD drive

when I put in a UMD it will spin for about 7-8 seconds and then stop.
I also noticed that the gears responsible for moving the laser are not spinning but the black one does spin

so what could be my problem

did you drop your psp before it happened? cuz if you did you may (MAY) have shifted the gears in the drive and therefore they are not touching anymore or are stripped. the easiest way to fix that is to replace the UMD Drive which can be bought on www.dealextreme.com . And i believe they sell for around 20 dollars US at the most and the shipping is free if your willing to wait a month for it.

I have dropped it several times but is there a way by which I can just realign the gears without buying a new drive

not sure im not the greatest when it comes to working with gears... i guess you could try and put something underneath of them to push them up but i cant guarentee it will work or be a permanent solution.

so you mean that it will spin the umd disc for only 7 seconds right? Is that when you try and play the game or just when you put it in?

Ps. Do you have full CFW or light CFW installed on your psp?
If its full cfw then make sure your iso driver is set to umd required. Check vsh menu.

If light cfw then make sure that you have umd plugins enabled under the vsh menu.

To get to the vsh menu press select but onvy if you have cfw.

Reflash it, its a Firmwire issue, because it wouldnt stop after a time due to hardware malfunction

you would have to use hellcats to flash back to m33 5.00-4 and then install the 5.00-6 update again.
