ultra small thumb drives
« on: April 18, 2011, 08:33:18 PM »
Have you ever broken off a usb thumb drive into your computer because the stick is to big and you bumped it the wrong way.  This problem is made worse when it is in your car as there is a better chance of hitting it with you knee or smacking it with your hand as you go to change the song.

With more and more Car's coming with usb ports for listening to music and watching movies companies like Verbatim and Scosche are taking the next logical step.  ultra small usb sticks that still pack allot of storage

I was only able to find the spec sheet on the Verbatim one:

• 8GB storage capacity
• Only 2g in weight
• Smaller than a Euro coin, only 5mm is left protruding when inserted
• Can be left semi-permanently in radios, laptops, netbooks, digital photo frames etc.
• Works with PC and Mac operating systems

It is only 17.15mm long x 14.85mm wide x 7.7mm deep, when inserted into the USB port only 5mm of the Verbatim Store ‘n’ Go Audio USB is left protruding.

These sticks have been on sale in Europe now for a month so this is old news there but us in north America don't get them till next month.  No word yet on U.S. pricing, but the European version sells for 18 euros or about $26 USD.

Wtf are you talking about? I've seen these things on multiple occasions on US sites. Can't name any, just know I've seen them.

I agree with kicks, I've seen similar products at at /least/ 4G in size. The ones I definitely know I've seen are the ones without the surrounding USB shield and protrude only 3/8" or so.

SUCKS!!!

If you wanted an ultra small thumb drive... I have had one for QUITE some time now...

Step 1) GET SOMETHING LIKE THIS

Step 2) GET SOMETHING LIKE THIS

Step 3) smaller flash drive.

The only downside is that you will not have as much speed (in some cases) as a usb thumb drive. However there is an upside!!!! MicroSD cards are VERY versatile. When im out and about I carry one with an adapter for just about EVERY memory type out there. Having the USB adapter is very helpful as well.

I run portable apps and music from these all the time, with no lag or no notice as far as speed goes.

over time i have updated my reader and the memory to faster ones.

I can store millions of pages on a fingernail sized card. Also I have about 100 programs that are very useful that I can use at any time without installing them.
