Ipad/Ipod DIY OBD2 cable

I would like to make a copy of the gopoint GL1 obd2 cable for the ipod/ipad. That cable can cost anywhere from $100-$150...kind of a rip off if you ask me.
If we can figure out how to make the pinout of the obd2 connector to the ipad/ipod charge cable then i really think this could work and it would be really cheap to do. This cable would be compatible with the dashcommand program.

Where can we get the connector? I have been wanting to make one of these for a while, and I will have to check but I think I still have a website somewhere where you can download the programs for different cars also to run it off a laptop.  I have been looking for the connectors for awhile now.

Here's a good pinout diagram for the iOS data connection.  We can charge the ipod from the OBDII connector just like the original....to bad they patented that, fricken ridiculous.  So looks like the ODBII-->RS232-->iPhone, good to go.  Anyone good with making boards?  I've never really tried, but would be deifnately interested in helping assemble and test.  Cheers.
