Havin some wierd problems with my xbox

Hey guys my xbox has been actin very strange, its an old one, not the slim. it turns on perfectly and every thing but after about 5 minutes it make a wierd grinding sound and shuts off only to do the same thing when you turn it back on and wait 5 minutes also if i try put a disk in, i press the button and nothing happens, but if i press it again it make that noise and shuts off. and when i put Halo Reach in when the drive sometime open it makes that grinding noise but it doesint shut off it gets all four red rings and the circle thing in the center of the button flashes red and green. Anyone have this before? it has never red ringed or been opened.

Can you take a video or of what its doing? or maybe some pics of what the led is doing? if it has any error codes should show up on the screen... Need more info could be bad dvd drive making noise or something more need more info.

EDIT: could be over heating also if it flashes 2 red  2 green

nothing comes up on the screen at all when up on the screen at all, i might be a ble to post a vid later

I take it you've checked the video cable, with some models it pulls 4 lights when the video cable isn't plugged in...

grinding noise- fans, or DVD drive
RROD- Fan error, DVD drive fatal read error, cables not plugged in.

try these steps:
A. put a blank CD in there. post results.

B. take disk drive out of xbox, turn it on. post results.

C. try new DVD drive cables, be sure the drive is properly oriented(not upside down). post results

oh and i forgot to say it only red rings when i put halo reach in, any other game startes up then after about 10 mins it make that noise and shuts down. i cant get a vid now thought because i lost my camera

Sounds to me as if its a firmware issue, with the dvd or bad dvd drive, I really dont understand why it has nothing then will play games all of a sudden.
