Nintendo’s Wii 2 named ‘Wii U’ available 2012

Nintendo thinks it has found the solution to giving everyone exactly what they want, while also something new. Something that is comfortable but also a surprise. Something we’ve always had but at the same time something new. They’re calling it ‘Wii U’.


The first game for the new console will be New Super Mario Bros.™ Mii.with more than 30 when released.

    * Approximately 1.8 inches tall, 6.8 inches wide and 10.5 inches long.
    * New Controller:
    * The new controller incorporates a 6.2-inch, 16:9 touch screen and traditional button controls, including two analog Circle Pads. This combination removes the traditional barriers between games, players and the TV by creating a second window into the video game world. The rechargeable controller includes a Power button, Home button, +Control Pad, A/B/X/Y buttons, L/R buttons and ZL/ZR buttons. It includes a built-in accelerometer and gyroscope, rumble feature, camera, a microphone, stereo speakers, a sensor strip and a stylus.
    * Other Controls:
    * Up to four Wii Remote™ (or Wii Remote Plus) controllers can be connected at once. The new console supports all Wii™ controllers and input devices, including the Nunchuk™ controller, Classic ControllerTM, Classic Controller ProTM and Wii Balance Board™.
    * Media:
    * A single self-loading media bay will play 12-centimeter proprietary high-density optical discs for the new console, as well as 12-centimeter Wii optical discs.
    * Video Output:
    * Supports 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i. Compatible cables include HDMI, component, S-video and composite.
    * Audio Output:
    * Uses AV Multi Out connector. Six-channel PCM linear output through HDMI.
    * Storage:
    * The console will have internal flash memory, as well as the option to expand its memory using either an SD memory card or an external USB hard disk drive.
    * CPU:
    * IBM Power®-based multi-core microprocessor.
    * Other:
    * Four USB 2.0 connector slots are included. The new console is backward compatible with Wii games and Wii accessories.

Im really impressed by this new wii, i think its gonna bring alot for nintendo. I think the only flaw is the actual size of the controller, its a little big. But overall it looks badass.

the controller is just a portable screen so i think that there will be a smaller controller soon for it

I think Nintendo did a good job... not only with the console but with keeping it in wraps.

I see tons of potential for the controller. i wonder what the system will look like. I hope that they step up the graphics on this.

the thing that I'm seeing as a potential problem is battery life for the controller. we all know how important battery life is for a controller.


I have always been a fan of Nintendo and this shows me that I will still continue. It is something to its own.


with all the abilities of what the controller can do, i would like to see a hide and seek game, or a puzzle game that incorporates the 3d world with the game. if they use more spacial sensing on their system they could make it totally interactive.


as someone said above, i can see potential for a seperate handheld console using the controller only. i like the fact that they put 2 analog sticks on it...

im taking it apart as soon as i get it.

I could see this as the end of TV-based wii's.  Look at what is happening to the PSP's.  Sony is starting their end by turning them into phones.  Eventually they could put everything in the controller and either get rid of the console or make it into a wireless receiver.  Only time will tell.
