Just to start off i would like to say, My bad because i didn't realize this had started yet as i was on holiday.

Anywho I've got a controller, and ill upload pics when i unpack. Still no parts though....

7th Aug
so got my controller, lol brand new and never used. This is also my first time Ive delved into xbox as I'm mostly a sony modder.

Here it is the Magnificent unmodded xbox controller

about half an hour after this picture was taken my mind started wondering what lurked inside so i opened and fully disassembled it ready for modding, and don't test my pretty pink towel...

Oh I've realized i havent mentioned what I'm doing here. Well its nothing special but I'm painting it to match my xbox, which I've also never played on. Aha before you ask, as soon as it was swapped for a packed of cookies i started work on it and I'm still half way though doing it. Its a watercooed and cookie monster themed. I've also taken plenty of pictures during its creation so when I'm done I'll post them all. All work has ground to a stop atm because my boss thinks shes absolutely hilarious not paying me straight away this month so I've only got £1.20 rolling around in my bank account for all the bankers to laugh at. Can't think of anything else to tell you but watch this space it may surprise anally rape you. ttfn

Whilst i was waiting for this competition to start i drew some rough pictures of how i wanted everything to look on the controller itself. Bought blue Acrylic paint... £2 out of my original £3 budget, FML. Today i merely sanded the controller down with wire wool and cleaned it with soapy water, ready for priming

Ugh i just wrote a long ass essay then i accidentally pressed back and now its gone, ill recreate it later. I'm on a tea break

if you can't tell straight away this is a picture, yes yes i know its frickin awesome and full of awesomeness, such as hand painted BLUE triggers, FIT. Well obviously i didn't literally use my hands to paint them with, that would be retarded and plus i don't think the finish would be quite nice. Wait i think its called finger painting.

mmmm.... more cookies foh me. First layer of black paint is done on the controller

Patience my young padawans spray painting takes its sweet time. Today i sanded the first layer (four subcoats) down with 1500 grit wet sandpaper and finished the second layer ( another four layers of impressive can control). I also whipped out my paint brush and painted some pretty beastly pictures, enjoy

16th Aug
Sup chumps, twas a slow day today. just finalised the painting ready for the clear coat and made my ROL blue, casually only found to so i resorted to using 2 pink and 2 blue... but I'm gonna act as if its supposed to be like that ok so don't tell ANYONE or i will hunt you down and ask you nicely for blue leds.

Its ok, just we got the members in , and competition starts August 13th 2011, yet we wanted to have all pics in on August 6 and give people a week to get money together to do there mods glad you could join in

crazy whilst your here i need your expertise on something. I added a molex power supply to the motherboard on my actual xbox and it works fine for everything, such as lights and my pump, but for some strange reason my fan just keeps spinning even when the xbox is off. I have to pull the power supply out the back of the xbox to make it stop. on top of this the fan doesn't seem to spin very fast at all. The fan is a standard 120mm thermaltake one and it has a male and female cord, a yellow one for temperature control and a strange white one which i have no idea of.

I believe the white one is for direction in which the fan spins, In the pic near the fan it looks like 2 yellows a red and a black. and the plug goes out to one end and i am sure the other two wires go to the molex connector, 12v fan? being its temperature controlled maybe thats why its not spinning very fast, reasing being is that its not getting hot enough for the fan to pick up enough speed.

One of the yellows goes to the temperature bit on the motherboard, you know where the old fans went. i left the white plug because i don't really know what its for. thanks for sorting things but it still doesn't explain why it spins whilst everything else switches off

How long does it spin for, some of the new boards are set up to run a while after it shuts down being you have it wired in with the orignal fan, it could be doing that till it cools down even if it is cool i think it stays running for a while. shouldnt run no longer then a min or 2

Maybe you got direct power to it all the time might want to check your molex connector when the powers off and just got the power supply hooked up might have 12v there all the time

The reason it is always on, and is slow, is because you are powering it from the 5v rail not the 12v, the 5v rail is not switched.

P.S The extra wire is for sensing the speed of the fan, it outputs pulses on that line to indicate its speed.

Yeah your problem is what hyper said. You have it connected to a constant 5v source. You can either use a transistor for switching power or solder the 12v yellow wire from the molex to a switching 12v source. Use a meter if your unsure where one is.

i've checked though.. this is how my molex is wired

and the fan came wired as standard. Confused? Me too

i'll try it with a different fan today and see what happens

Never seen a cookie monster controller before! No sarcasm at all, I like it a lot. I imagine the paint texture adds a lot to the feel of the controller.
