Nice work .. would love to see the Tutorial on this ,  also Hope you join the winter mod-off 2012  Awesome job nice deminstration  :#1:

Edit: I know personaly this is not and easy mod to do.. I would say its 8/10 difficulty  mainly due to fitting it all in the controller and getting it to work assembled with out pinching wires or shorting it out

ONLY works on cg controllers. Rodent might have a tute on it.

Works on Common Line controllers as well. I made a little circuit using a diode, resistor and transistor for each of the leds. The hardest part was finding space to put that into the controller (10 in total). Whenever I open it up again, I will try to take pictures. But perhaps best if I mod my second controller like this when I have the time, and can document it properly.

I had to cut some channels in the top half of the controller casing to wire the transistors, leds etc. Then I put the cabling around the sides to the back of the circuit board where it was connected to the TP points etc. And also made the negative and positive voltage feeds on that side as well. I had to redo it three times because just as Rodent said, it is not easy without wires getting pinced or even to get the controller to fit back together, mainly because the transistors etc take up lots of space. Whenever I remake this mod, I will use TPS22907 which is an ultra small, low input voltage, low rON load switch that will allow me to put ten of those in the space where I have only three transistors now. This was a first experimential mod.

Here is the circuit I used to let the leds light up when you press the button.

The rumble leds was the easiest, just a resistor to the positive side of the led and connect it to +5V on the USB input, then the negative side of the diode to the negative pin on the Rumble motor connector. When the controller pulls that pin to low in order to get the motor to turn and cause rumbling, it lights the leds without draining current from the motor.

@Rodent: What is the 2012 winter mod competition  you mentioned? (Already am I thinking up some ideas for my next mod ;) ).

Forgot to mention that if you are going to do this mod, just behind the left rumbler (small weight on engine) is one place where you can put transistors in the top part of the shell. The other place is just below the guide button but that requires you cut a channel next to the dpad in the plastic to allow routing cables through there. And finally, on the back side of the right rumble motor, or rather the plastic in top part that is behind the rumble motor. Further, any wire must NOT EVER interfere with the rubber pads in any way, or you will have very bad tactile feedback on the buttons.

That is one awesome controller dude. Knowing you did push activated LEDs for your first controller mod is pretty dang impressive. I have yet to do a controller mod myself :)
