So here's the idea.  i would like some feed back before i start tearing into my ps3 and my imac... this is just the main system i'm not sure what to do with the controller but i do know it has something to do with the mac keyboard and mouse just not sure what.

sorry about the bad drawings my Pocket eDge is more for txt than art

I like the idea. Keep it up. Did you check to see if the ps3 mobo will fit yet?
BTW the ps3 supports all sorts of peripherals so you should be able to use some kind of mouse keyboard combo.

ya i was thinking a combo key/mouse but the kicker is i gotta find a way to mod it as per the 2nd part of the modoff that's what i have do idea about  and i dono if i mod a keyboard and mouse if i'll get flack for not modding a controller or vice versa

I have a suggestion for your second part. I was playing with a friends mini keyboard/touch pad / media remote wireless usb thing. The touch pad worked on ps3. didnt get to test in game because it was damaged and would randomly press buttons. LINK. Anyways combine a controller and a keyboard thing? or add a controller to the keyboard some how?
like this
 LINK

Or you could go real high end and get one of those FPS mouse combo things for ps3?

really giving good competition good advice, bad idea.

long time no post... I had a bunch of problems uploading these pics on the date taken so here are the ps3 Dis-assembly pics

Pic #1 - Before i start

Pic #2 - With the hood up

Pic #3 - Drive, PSU, wireless, Bluetooth, card reader, and power switch removed

Pic #4 - Board removed

Pic #5 - Have you ever noticed that when you disconnect the battery the little connector always comes with it

Pic #6 - Fan and Board removed

Pic #7 - This is the stuff i think i am going to put into it mostly to add extra cooling to the neglected chips

Pic #8 - The old case is up for grabs at the end of the comp so when it is done and my account is made public shoot me a pm and i'll send em to you free (you pay shipping)

I have some more stuff done but i am still trying to figure out what ones i want to post

OK so at this point i am just doing a mock up of everything that is going in and testing to make sure it fits and works but i didn't receive my rca to vga converter till today so it isn't mocked up in this.  you will see that once i place everything tomorrow.

Pic #1-3 - this is just with the PS3 Board, PSU and fan placed in there… this placement is not final but it seems to fit

Pic #4-6 - This is the Bluray drive placed in the slot where the iMac's super drive sat.. the space is a tad narrower than the drive so there is about 1/2 inch of open space from the inside of the case to the drive so i will have to modify the drive a bit to make it fit right

Pic #7-9 - Ok so this is the lcd placed and fitted into the iMac… this WILL be it's exact placement but the cables coming out of the back of it need to be modified.  For one the power for the PS3, LCD, and converter are going to be combined into one plug and fitted into a female port located exactly where the iMac port is.  also i would like to mention that i plugged it into one of the computers around the shop cause i got a kick out of the windows login screen on a mac =)

Pic #10 - Everything (except the bottom) put on just to see how it looks

I would mod a controller. I haven't had much experience with a keyboard and mouse on the PlayStation but being for gaming, i think the controller would be the better option.
If its strictly for things other then gaming, such as Linux or something then go for the keyboard.

Good luck

ya i was thinking that to but wouldn't it take away from the computer look by not having a keyboard?

Do both, they have a keyboard that has a controller built in.  I thought I linked it.

possibly even a keyboard that had a controller charger port on the top so you can easily snap the controller into the keyboard itself, and take it off when you want to game?

ya you did but i really didn't like the look it just seemed like not enough room for moding

possibly even a keyboard that had a controller charger port on the top so you can easily snap the controller into the keyboard itself, and take it off when you want to game?

that ain't a bad idea i was thinking of making the top of it have a charger but this way i can knock charger and keyboard mod off the list. thanks!

I found this mini bluetooth ps3 compatible keyboard at DX.
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/mini-rechargeable-bluetooth-2-0-wireless-keyboard-for-android-nokia-symbian-s60-cellphones-white-57273

Or even better a full size wireless one that matches the look.
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/81-key-slim-portable-rechargeable-bluetooth-wireless-keyboard-white-45252
even charges via an ipod looking charger.
Ipod dock possibility maybe.

so i found out that what i need is a 60-way 0.5mm pitch FFC cable or extender that is at least 45cm long (18 inches) or something to convert it like this

but if i use this i need 2 and that will make life even harder as they come from India and i have just over a month... *sigh* if anyone has any suggestions let me know

you may be able to convert it into an IDE cable for computers and then back into the original cable, but it will probably be messy and hard to do. possibly something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200715597113+&item=200715597113&lgeo=1&vectorid=229466

Good luck

the problem is how to convert it that is why i was considering the unit above, apparently separating the wires and soldering them is next to impossible

depending on how handy you are with an soldering iron you can solder to 0.5mm pitch pads with 30awg kynar without much trouble, I have done it a few times when I've needed to breadboard with SMD components

EDIT: and you shouldn't need to separate them :)

wow... i wish i would have checked here before i did what i did...

i found that if i move the controller board a bit i could make the distance...

then when testing everything i heard ZZZZZZZZZT and there goes the controller board.

now i have to remove a surface mount chip and m9ove it to a new board.

Luckily i have done that before

/sigh

so i just wanted to give a quick little update.. i have had to swap out the ps3 i was using to another one i had... repairing that controller card is gonna take more time than i have

just wanted to let everyone know that I WILL FINISH the main mod.  i may end up disqualified as all this time spent has left me with no rime or money to do a controller mod for it.  with a little luck i may be able to pull it out of my @ss though

wish me luck
