PSVita mod ideas
« on: February 23, 2012, 06:20:41 AM »
Hello folks.

It's been awhile.

So, we have a new console to breakdown, understand and mod the hell out of.

Question is, what can we do to this console?

it's not like jewels are gonna be a possibility, but since i don't have one yet (I will very soon, money allowing), what do you guys want to see?

I wouldn't mind seeing some led clear analog sticks rocking on this console or even a decent custom paint job.

Anyone willing to help, I am willing to try molding clear buttons and sticks for the vita. If I get my hands on one soon look for clear sticks to come real quick.

Clear cases should come out soon too so then we can start putting in more leds

I was also thinking if it was possible to add rumble and what kind of V points will there be. It would be good if there is 5v or so point in case we ever need to put in LM386s and other chips.

Also if the speaker isn't loud enough it would be good if a speaker mod could be done.

Also imagine all kinds of emulators on it considering it can use 3 of the 4 cores and has a good GPU. Maybe PS2 & Dreamcast emulators could be made

As far as jewels go, The one I had in my hands at gamestop , the grip area could be jeweled maybe. the parts on each side of the multi touch on the rear.

I like the idea of a glowing PS symbol and the grip jewels would be a great mod to pull off. I got paid today, but as i'm saving up a deposit for a flat, i can't justify getting a Vita (not this month anyway). I'd like to try out the transistor led mod that was on the psp slim. worked far better than the LM386 for some reason and used less power. I'm sure when the clear cases come out, someone will create the clear analog sticks. It worked with the playstation and xbox controllers so i don't see any reason why it wouldn't work on this.... well... there maybe a space issue, but it's worth having a go.

Maybe I'm missing something, but how would a replacement case work with the touch panel on the rear? Wouldn't any replacement case need to incorporate this as well? Maybe paint would be difficult because of it too?

the digitizer is sandwiched between the actual touchpanel and the back housing, so the only way to remove digitizer would be to remove the rear touch panel from the rear part of the housing, I imagine its glued on somehow or could possibly clip in, but when I had mine apart doing the led trigger mod I examined it well and no clips I could see. So it must be attached with adhesive or something, I have big plans on a mod for that rear area so I investigated it well. I hate to mess up my original housing because of what I would like to do, but I called sony and acted like I dropped the vita and wanted to buy the rear housing, they will not sell parts they said :( so out of luck there. I will have to wait for 3rd party housings or just go ahead and go forward, but I wanted to share with you guys what I knew about the rear touch and how its put together.

Well the sound is quite good. better then the psp was originally but not by much.

and unfortunatly sony already beat you to that punch as the PS Symbol comes backlighted already.

and as for mods that could be done to the exterior of the console. the answer is not much as there is little room left over. the only mod i could see currently being developed is the grips on the back being replaced with a clear jewel like 1TONpete said and SR led lights as well as the l and r triggers with SR led lights. and maybe the inside of the headphone jack as an added touch. but i do not think the LM386 chip is going to be possible as i believe it lacks the needed space for the mod.

I have confirmed through a bunch of google serching and asking around that the back touch panel is indeed glued together. so a generous amount of heat is required to seperate the backing from the housing.

but one thing we should aim for is trying to see if we could add led backlighted power buttons and volume buttons as well as possibly backlighted analogs and directional and action pads.

Also another idea that has come to my mind is the pissibility of a new kind of jewel for the touchpad. pete i would like to discuss this with you via pm as well as the rear grip idea.
