« on: March 01, 2012, 07:15:41 AM »
So this is the Other Part of my mod, Check out my controller progress here ---> https://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php/topic,41430.0.html

So this is an Invader Zim themed Xbox 360, as mentioned above ^^..

So main Features/Ideas for this Mod will be :

> Clear Pespex window
> one Green UV 80MM fan in the left corner at the bottom
> 2x 40MM fans at the bottom of the chassis
> Whisper Green Fans to replace the stock ones [Still have to order]
> Clear Wind Tunnel with Green led Strip
> Green LED's around the trim of the xbox
> Temperature reader on the faceplate from the CPU
> Switch between 5V - 12V
> Led on/off switch for fans and Led strips
> HDD window w/ HDD activity led
> ROL invertion from green to red

+ Coolrunner will be installed later on this year :dribble:

Color Scheme is Spearment Green and Navy Blue
I was going for lime green and Purple, couldnt find Purple spray around here, and the spearment green looks sick

I will be updating over the months, as this is a Long term project.. hehe

Updates

The cut out with perspex [Note the masking is still on the Perspex]

Position of the 80mm Fan

thanx

Hi guys, I ran into a porblem yesterday...

I have connected all the wiring to the leds and fans. and theres only 3 physical wires soldered to the mobo. so everything worked fine, and i wanted to show my dad what i did that night

But then when i switched on the xbox, the powsower brick went to Red instantly.

Today i read around some forums and threads about it, and this is the most valuable info i got so far...

Chris, I replied to your PM on this, but to spread knowledge on the scene, I will post basically what I said in my PM (a little bit more detailed):

If the PSU is confirmed working, it is either something wrong with the microcontroller in the southbridge that controls the power on sequence, the linear regulator that powers it and/or the ROL board, or a short in the 5V standby (blown capacitor, transistor, etc).

The easy way to determine which one of these is the problem is to look at the light on the PSU, if when you plug it into the 360 it turns red briefly (or stays red), there is a short on the standby power (If the short was on the switched supply, the 360 would power up then flash 3 red lights with error 0001 or 0002, or power up for a split second then shut itself off). Also measuring the resistance from 5VSB to ground is a pretty sure fire way to tell

If the 5V standby power is NOT shorted, then the issue is either in the power button on the RF board (easily tested by powering up the box via another method), the southbridge, the the voltage regulator supplying it.

The two regualtors are U5B1 (3.3V) and U5B2 (1.8V). They are located on the top of the motherboard near the back, jsut to the left of the large screw hole in the center of the motherboard (near the fans). The large tab opposite the 2 smaller pins is the output of each regulator, so they should measure 3.3v and 1.8v respectively when the 360 is in standby (off but plugged in).

If those measure ok, then I'd say the southbridge is dead (that motherboard is nothing but a nice paperweight)

SO i got the readings for the standby 5V Voltage and its 5.8V
the U5b1 at 3.8V
the U5b2 at 2.1 V

cant get the controller to switch on the xbox, and the eject button doesn't work either,
I know its not the PSU, because i tested it on another xbox. I also desoldered all wires to the mobos and still get this..

any help Will be appreciated

take the lights off. seems like its drawing too much power for some reason and kicking off the psu.. trial and error. good luck

o. if the psu works on another xbox. and its not the plug in. there is a short somewhere. check everything you were messing with real closely

Hmm checked again just now, doesnt seem like theres any damage anywhere...

There is one thing though, dunno if its relevant. but a week ago i was testing out some fans. i plugged in the stock fans and something fizzled and sparked. not too big, just alittle ... anywho, the fan kept blowing at 12V continuously after that, no matter what i do

Edit:
Anyone have any information on this?

Take a video maybe of what you got done, and show us what the brick is doing, , does it go instant red? have you had heat sync off the gpu ? what i have found is that if your bolting the heat symcs it shorts against one of the voltage regulators and will not power on just instant red, Check for blow capacitors also.

The red light occurs when there is an error. Usually a direct short from a power source to ground.

I have had this happen before, but then i just pull out the cord, wait for the light to go out, and plug it in again and then it works. ill try switching on without any heatsincks on and out of the casing. im uploading a vid as im typing this.

Rodent, It goes instant red. How would i check the caps, and witch ones?

Heres link: http://youtu.be/xS_3rQPKU8Q

sorry about the bad quality, my camera's video was too big size, so i used a cheap conversion program :/

I see you have the fans removed, and yea thats a dead short.. somewhere  does it do it with the fans pluged in? I am stumped  due to not really sure what you have added to it  could have a bridged solder joint.

Theres nothing soldered to the motherboard ATM.

About the fans, When the xbox started up [before this happened] the fans went crazy, at a constant 12V "speed" if you get what i mean.

I doubt it really matters but I noticed you have the CPU heat sink on sideways

in the video it looks like you still have that 3 pin header soldered to the mobo, mounted on the power jack. i would remove that and see if it makes any difference, maybe take it out of its metal case and see if it boots? hope you get it working.

The thing is, the problem starter even before i had taken out the heatsincs, or the xbox mobo out of the chassis,

i removed the 3 pin header and it still shorts out. tried starting the xbox without any heatsincs on yesterday, STILL shorts.
When i shake the mobo theres something that rattles though.

i think its in the sata port for the HDD of the xbox... Im going to try and desolder that today and try starting the xbox on again.

EDIT: i tried switching it on when it was outside the chassis, and the problem persists

blown caps will show swelling, leaking out the bottom or top of the capacitors, sorry for the late response on that, you can google blown capacitors images.. you will see what to look for

The rattling is the orientation sensor, it has a ball bearing inside to change the ROL orientation when the 360 is standing up or laying down
