Led mods help?
« on: February 15, 2014, 04:48:33 PM »
Hey guys.

I just replaced the LED's on mine and my brothers controller.
He has 4 Purple/UV LED's and they work fine.

On mine I went for 2 x bright green and 2 x Purple/UV (diagonal)

The problem is this. When I turn the controller on via battery pack, just the green ones light up
When I plug it in via play and charge kit all of them light up really brightly.

Is this because the batterys don't have enough energy to power the purple LED's or have I done something wrong?

Thx

Yes, purple leds requires more voltage

If you changed the green LEDs to purple you might not have this problem because the voltage is not "shared equally" among the LED's.

Electricity has a tendency to follow the easiest path to ground. If the LED has a lower forward voltage then it is easier for the electricity to flow through it.

Purple LED forward voltage: 4.1v
Green LED forward voltage: 2.1

Two "AA batteries" are around 3.2 volts at full charge.
Microsoft's rechargeable batteries are about 2.6v

The play and charge kit plugs into the console's USB port which will supply 5 volts to charge the batteries. 5 volts is more than enough to light up the purple LED's
