Watercooled Xbox 360 phat and slim advice?

I been searching around and cant seem to find the best kits used for these. I know crazy-modder has built some cool water cooled xbox 360 consoles and heard some bad things about water cooling .

 what i want is advice on what is the best to use,  what doesnt leak and what is the best cooling solution to be used cause i heard some get slimmy and gummed up

Water cooling is out of the question. Ethylene glycol coolant is whats used in "water-cooled" systems. Or you could use mineral oil for the coolant.

Personally I don't like any of those.

My favorite is an acetone based cooling system. I like it because its miles more efficient than any other DIY liquid cooling system without using special pumps or refrigerants. The downside is the fittings need to be metal or high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic.


For the fittings... I really don't know what crazy-modder used. I think he custom fit the cooling rig for and xbox360.


The hole spacing for old-gen xbox360 heatsinks are: [4" x 4" exact], on-center-hole, 1/4-20 tapped. It's easy to make something fit.

acetone based cooling system i have heard do not use this .  yet cant find a reason why? fumes? harsh chemical? i know what acetone is not good for breathing .  yet why people say not use if sealed? yea i know what you mean by this also high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic.
 use to use it all the time hard to get a hold of now use to get it for free

You will just have to find the water block that fits the 4" x 4" spec.




People say do not use because it's flammable as a vapor. If it's a closed system with refrigerant-grade copper pipe (all soldered and whatnot) I see no real downside to using acetone.

Acetone has a lower boiling point than water. Heatpipes in most CPU heatsinks use water at the triple-point to achieve optimum cooling properties. Acetone is 'user-friendly' in a sense when you think about it. You don't have to be too critical about the pressure of the liquid to achieve a favorable rate of heat exchange.

well if youre looking for true optimal cooling and if youre willing to give it a go. Why not try using a Themoelectric cooler on the CPU with the liquid cooling attached to the hot side?

Ive seen people use that method on gaming rigs and achieve -1 degree at full capacity.

Now ive heard people say that there is always a chance that the cooler can burn-up if its not properly cooled. So i figured "Why not hook its power supply to some kind of timer that constantly adjusts the flow of power to the cooler to prevent it from being too cold and too hot?

Thermoelectric cooling is incredibly inefficient unless you're some kind of HVAC-R wizard lol


Peltier effect is very difficult to control in a small location like an xbox case. You'll have to suck more heat out than what's generated by the CPU to achieve those temps.

That means you need lots of surface area on your heatsinks and some fans that can move some serious air through those heatsinks.

well i got the jasper jtag "Jtagged"  already got people asking me to sell it.  my goal was to water cool it but  might just have to sell it and move on to another console  so i will be taking advice i cant get to expensive or these kids will cry its over priced ...  need to be able to build a liquid cooled for around $75 on top of the rgh prices i sell them for  probably no more then about $600 tops

I watercooled mine a while back,
I recommend buying the parts new. I know it might seem obvious but the first radiator I got was second hand and was really messed up on the inside. Saying that, when you buy/build the parts the prices start to stack as well.
You can get a special waterblock for the xbox (which i used) and that made things so much simpler to route.
I used some UV blue ethylene glycol one, can't really say much about it. It hasn't gunked up but the colour of it faded to a dull turquoise a while ago.
If I'm going to be honest i think its a waste other than the aesthetic look of it. It requires having at least a largish fan that you could have just used to cool the system normally

thank you for your input i plan on buying everything new.  just trying to make it cause i have some customers who want a water cooled xbox.    got a pic or list of things i should use?

sorry for the delay,
the waterblock was a XSPC XBOX 360 CPU & GPU Waterblock, it covered both and fitted snugly under the disk tray.
the reservoir was an XSPC one as well, I recommend them (found out what it was called, XSPC X2O 450water cooling Pump with Acrylic Reservoir)
the radiator and fan were 12cm Thermaltake ones

and this is how i ended up doing the pipes, originally i wanted to fit the reservoir inside and make it all internal. It is possible with my combination but at the time i just didn't own a soldering iron that would get hot enough to re-route those capacitors where the pipes exit.

what kind of resiviour are you going to use? imo i think the tube ones look nice.

when i was gathering parts to do liquid cooling in my computer i found tunes of pics of peoples builds.

i only got to the water block (xspc block) and bitpower fittings.

here is the console i was going to add it to but now i will have to get the parts and find another one to add it to
