Accidentally took off a resistor on PS5 controller
« on: October 06, 2022, 08:29:53 PM »
Replacing control sticks in a PS5 controller, I accidentally took off a resistor. After soldering the new control sticks I put it back together. It all seems to work fine but I?m wondering what that resistor does.

I circled the resistor I took off.

Thanks in advanced!

Not sure that's a Resistor, it's more likely a Ferrite Bead, and it's on the 5v External rail. It will not have any effect on the controller working at all, but it will not charge in a charging station thru that External jack now. If you want to restore that function, just jumper it back closed with solder or a small wire. If you don't ever plan to toss it in a charging station, the it can just stay like that forever.

Screwing up is one of the best learning tools, so long as the only thing you're not learning is how to screw up.
