you mean there are 2 5.25" drive bays on each side of the case. you can use one side or the other. making a grand total of 4 bays

where can i buy this?

i picked this up off of ebay. i would google "Lian-Li PC-V300" if your interested. they don't make it any more, but there are some people who still stock them.

okay, the Bays looked huge!

Will this case take all stock PC Compenents? I've got a PC i want recased, as the case is a little large (although, compact for a PC)

Hopefully they do but I've always been unsure and that's what stopped me from get a case like this one. They look good for Micro-ATX motherboard's and Media Center PC's

it will take a normal PSU unlike many small form factor cases, but it will not accommodate a full ATX mother board

this will be a LAN box. im sick of having to pull a full size tower out of my room and lug it to a lan pary.

it looks big in the pic but it is not in real life but hear is it compaired to a 900

i didn't pay that much. and the reason they are so hard to come across is because the don't make them any more. they have moved on to make the 350

How did you cut the case? Did you use a Jigsaw?

there are a few different ways to do it, you can use a dremmel. but yes i used a jig saw. drilled the pilot hole first and cut from there. maske the plate and cut it. i still need to file the edges down there still quite rough

this is what im looking at so far.

Motherboard.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813136055 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813136055)

and Processors

(1) Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz

thing is this will be the first time i work with Intel or ATI ive always gone AMD in the past so any insight / input / wisdom you could contribute would be vary cool.

oh the lan event is Digital Overload incase you wanted to know.

Title: Re: new case UPDATE: hit a wall 9/29/08

triple post

well guys ive hit some walls.

First Wall

i went to buy my parts last week and my card was declined.:wallbash: it had expired and i was out of town so i couldn't activate my new one. i got home from my trip and went to activate it and was told i have to call my bank to do it but i have to call during business hours. so ill fix that on Monday and buy my parts.

Second Wall

i picked up a Swifech Radiator and a Danger Den Fillport

(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi177.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fw240%2Ftec_in_the_making%2FP9280078.jpg&hash=ae2b89899a11d06bd9a02026a4c776a6111ef070)
(not the actual motherboard im going to use)
(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi177.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fw240%2Ftec_in_the_making%2FP9280079.jpg&hash=dd8f93c55aa3401b4228ae21b00fbee7cd114728)

and on to the wall my case is to small/radiator is to big by centimeters for the setup i had in mind.
i originally wanted to put the radiator in the front of the case but it looks like thats not going to work out.

(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi177.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fw240%2Ftec_in_the_making%2FP9280081.jpg&hash=430d2caf3d65b767b7dd81becc51d0c55d85b1bf)

(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi177.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fw240%2Ftec_in_the_making%2FP9280082.jpg&hash=de98c39dc7628066a583dfffaa6b48e2731e463a)

i have the option to mount the radiator in the side of the case

(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi177.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fw240%2Ftec_in_the_making%2FP9280080.jpg&hash=fa9ae75677af034cd1265ea5077891a9605e60ab)

but to do that i would need to perform surgery cut half of the HDD rack out and a little more than half of the drive bays (witch is going to need some work for the video card to fit) and to then fabricate a new side panel out of plexi. wouldn't be that bad and i could mount my pump on the floor of my case.

or i could return my radiator try and find a smaller one that would fit and keep my side panel (cut a design in it) and mount my pump in the part of the drive bay i wouldn't have to cut out.

im in a toss up as to what to do.

oh and i got a free APC (forgive the rats nest)
(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi177.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fw240%2Ftec_in_the_making%2FP9280083.jpg&hash=cac3ea0ed0c27f881de95c0dd3a4f05e956e0d55)

Title: Re: new case UPDATE: hit a wall 9/29/08
Post by: Tec_ on September 30, 2008, 11:15:17 PM
well my decision was made to day i figured out how im going to do it.

i decided to cut out one of the 2 HDD racks and to cut out the left side of the 5.3 bays (the case has the option to use both sides)
im going to make a new side panel out of acrylic that is on its way.

the side my disk drive will be on. (acrylic will be used for the window)

(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi177.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fw240%2Ftec_in_the_making%2FP9300079.jpg&hash=06c14ced927bdd57484fe3a78ee75e06e96907dc)

the radiator side mocked up with a scrap piece of acrylic

(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi177.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fw240%2Ftec_in_the_making%2FP9300082.jpg&hash=4756fe6a168de9f1dc7d43699ec5e823e55af837)

hear you can see ware i cut the HDD rack and the drive bays.

(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi177.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fw240%2Ftec_in_the_making%2FP9300081.jpg&hash=26a71105313a1bba871c6c6567c7303176364f83)

Note
the motherboard is just for mock up purposes.

If it's just for gaming dont get the Q6600, even the E8400 may not be the best choice.  I have used both the E7200 and E8500, in the same machine and while the E7200 was able to overclock higher the smaller cache did NOT handicap it at all against the E8500.  Also I still have both processors if your intererested, little dirty but nothing some 90% Isopropyl alchohol can't fix, I also have pleny of sata HD's and DVD rw drives.  Pretty much have a two whole computers, just the motherboards are bad...

Tec, You have some seriuesly awesome ideas, if possible can u get into contact with me or i can contact u over the internet, i have some ideas id like to run by a professional like yourself. Also mattzani What i did was to get the soft underglow was i got a 12inch blue cathode and took of the top(cube) and filled that thing to the brink with hot glue and let it dry(make sure its clear hot glue). When dried it is amazingly sweet.

EDIT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Tec, I have an antec Case door(white) that i could send you, its the kind that has a handle on it so you could do something with that. My Question to you is, wouldnt be more pleasing to the eye if the user would not be able to see the inside of ur case from the radiator angle side, How are going to hide all the cables and such, i know you are a clean modder like me who cant stand cables in a place... Let me know what you think.

i thought about custom cuting a sheet of aluminum for the side, but i don't want to have to deal with the paint/anodizing of it. as for cabels, there will be some sevier PSU modding. also a modular PSU will make some things easear, plus i still have a few tricks left

moving on

well i got home from my last work trip to find my acrylic waiting for me. took today off went to a wake for i guy i went to school with, worked a little on the computer and just decompressed a little.

i got the side cut and sanded down nicely. but my jig saw bit in and jumped when i was cutting the spot for the radiator and ended up cracking the acrylic in a few different places. im going to scrap this piece and cut a new one.

on to the pic's

>< this makes me want to make a custom case. I got an old dell case that I have removed all the hardware from, but it still all works, I am going to cut a window in it and install a couple fans and an exhuast. As soon as I can get a new dremel blade ima cut the window >< Also if you need some cool idea look up monstermawds or something like that on youtube. They has some great case mod tutorials. They made this fan mount thing on the front of there case that looks awesome and I have never seen anything like it before  :x:

Very nice, I saw this on bit-tech

Also, if possible you should put UV paint (the non conductive kind) on all your motherboard plastic peices, looks very nice with a subtle UV light or even better, black light if you can find one :)

well guys i have sent my case off to wild Bill Owne at www.mnpctech.com (http://www.mnpctech.com) to have the rough edges taken off and to get some of that special paint that he dose so well. The case will be a glossy black with lime green & silver pinstripes or lime green & purple pinstripes. I haven’t decided yet. Now all I have to do is to order the rest of the parts and get her up and running!

Placing a CPU cooler other than the one that came with your CPU will also void the warranty. So will over clocking. But this is acid mods I laugh at warrantys.
