Hmm that's weird... My friend had the same problem but it faded randomly even without pressing down the buttons. Now, it just doesn't turn on, period. Did you drop the psp or something? Or maybe there's a short somewhere?
-
the problem is with the video chip on the psp motherboard. the psp was probably dropped at one point causing the solder joints to this ic to be broken. the dpad is on top of this chip and when you press the arrows, pressure is put on the video ic causing the solder joints to break away from the ic, shutting down the ic. That is why your video fades away.

thanks for the reply, any pic of where this IC is possibility of having it it fixed?

You can't fix that without reflowing part of the motherboard, I believe.
Nothing you can do with regular tools.
Talk to AlienX about it, he may have the tools/be able to help you with it. He knows a lot about this stuff.

Here is a picture of were the IC is:

A temporary fix would be to put some tape on top of the IC so that when the PSP is together it pushes the IC down so that it wont lose connection.
-
Reflowing it would probably fix it, as kicks said.
Do you have a hot air rework iron?
-
ill probaly get one since i can use it on alot of my projects =)
anyone know wa a good hot gun cost?

I have a hot air gun that I got from MicroMark.com, but you need a hot air rework iron that Alien said. It's different.

i got a hot air butane pen , it blow hot ass air! *ive use it to re flow ic's off a mobo never tried it wid anything small like that do.
basically it heat up sum ceramic thing and the air become really hot, i am not sure if it the same thing just ghetto'er

When i said this i meant rolling up a small ball of tape and putting it on top of the IC. I did this and now my PSP can display the video. before it didnt even do that, just the backlight worked.

Tape won't fix that though. $10 says you shifted the LCD cable into place and that tape did nothing.
Lol, tape won't push and IC down, let alone make it work (IF that was the problem which I doubt).
-
oh :censored: son! guess what the ball of tape trick worked:| it not doing it no more!! WOW thank dude LOL
GHETTOOOO!! all the way ! even tought my psp's are never built ghetto;) (you all seen it) lol

Yeah, that is nothing like a hot air rework irons.
They have adjustable temperature, and air flow.
As well as different nozzles for the IC package and pin count which you are reworking.
That would just fry the chips beyond belief.
Cool though for heatshrink

This is done on a psp 3000 but the same technique applies for the 2000

will a hot air gun work for this? like the ones used for heat shrink? cause i might try tomorrow and im not sure if this will screw up the parts
