Title: New way to do sound reactive LEDs
Post by: folklord36 on January 28, 2009, 01:40:59 AM
Hey guys its 4:30 Am and I just perfected the new way to do sound reactive LEDs useing a single 2n222 NPN transistor you can find at any radioshack. It is slightly dimmer than the LM386 but it reacts 100X better and the LEDs are only verry slightly on when there is no sound.

Heres a video of it in action

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOfRjklm0_E
 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOfRjklm0_E)

I will release a TUT tomarrow hopefully this can get me my R&D position back? Let me know admins......

Thats crazy. Awesome find and awesome work. This might get me back to modding.

cool waiting on the tut :D

are those UV leds where did you get them?

That's really good stuff man. cheapest reactive LED mod i've seen yet.

Thats where I got these they are brighter but this makes them a lil dimmer.

Yes all that is needed is a 2n2222 NPN transistor and a single 100 ohm resistor its cheaper more, more efficent, more responsive and has less soldering required. I must note though that I havent figured how to make them turn off with WiFi switch ATM you must add another switch some where to cut power off and on.

nice job man
I like ur case lol (inside joke)
and u did the exact same thing i did but u used the 5v and i used the 3.6v i think they look the same tho but nice work

ooooo ya and i did it off the amp that might make a diff or not
Title: Re: New way to do sound reactive LEDs
Post by: folklord36 on January 28, 2009, 05:53:58 PM
Ya thanks man I love the case and trim it just looks so clean!

The first time I did it I ran it off an amp too and this time it is a lil different so ya it dose make a lil bit of a difference.

witch 3.6v spot did you use?

Nice psp dude.
I was trying to do some research on transistors but I didn't find any useful info on how they work. I will do more research later
The trasistor looks way better than lm386

Hopefully this becomes the OFFICIAL SR led way so we can throw the crappy LM386 way out the window

i used the point on the connector that goes to the battery only one i found

I will probably incorporate the transistor in all the SR mods I do from now on. I fried my first mobo w/ the lm386 when i was a n00b

I posted a TUT its not official yet but I need help what should I add or remove? Any tips as I just posted my first two TUTs and im not sure what I should tweak on them.

It looks fairly easy to understand to me
I'm pretty sure that everyone will figure out that the emitter leg is the negative for the led
Title: Re: New way to do sound reactive LEDs
Post by: j.s2ghetto on January 28, 2009, 06:17:55 PM
agreed if they can't figure that out and they can wit LM386 there is a prob
Title: Re: New way to do sound reactive LEDs
Post by: RoBot1ks on January 28, 2009, 06:20:04 PM
lol
I still can't figure out how I fried that mobo. Maybe cause I soldered wires for the speaker - and + to the actual speaker terminal and wired the 5v to something I shouldn't  have.

As far as the tutorial goes, It looks pretty good, ppl will understand. No need to worry

Hehe I just labeled the negative and positive on the LED to make sure there is no confusion how's that lol?
Title: Re: New way to do sound reactive LEDs
Post by: j.s2ghetto on January 28, 2009, 06:23:51 PM
i am pretty sure it was a nooby mistake everyone makes them i just did yesterday lol  but i fixed it
so don't feel to bad

Hehe I just labeled the negative and positive on the LED to make sure there is no confusion how's that lol?

perfect now no one will have to ask that question like a milllion times
Title: Re: New way to do sound reactive LEDs
Post by: RoBot1ks on January 28, 2009, 06:28:50 PM
Yes they will. They will see this topic and do it deliberately lol
Once I pick up the right transistor, I will try it
I may have one in my pile of electronic parts (in a shoe box)

I found some on ebay but they have an extra 2 at the end... Is there a difference? I have no clues what transistors do lmao

Ya same thing just like LM386n-1 and all that crap, different company's make the same components with slightly different names.

no because the wifi switch is a ground.

is there a way to use em with the hold switch?
Title: Re: New way to do sound reactive LEDs

Not yet. Somebody will probably think of something though.
Title: Re: New way to do sound reactive LEDs
Post by: folklord36 on February 04, 2009, 10:08:01 PM
Ya the hold switch will work just cut both traces and on the side that goes to switch scratch them and solder power to it and then to ur LED. Using hold switch as the power switch in the diagram, any switch will work as long as its turning the power on to the LEDs not grounding it as the WIFI switch.

Diagrams pl0x? I don't get it :( lol
Title: Re: New way to do sound reactive LEDs
Post by: folklord36 on February 05, 2009, 03:44:57 PM
cant really draw a siagram for a switch thats pointless basicly you are cutting traces to deactivate the hold function then solder to hold switch as a power switch

I thought hold switch is ground? *counfused*

Basically what I already posted a while ago, isolate it from the ground.

Easier to use a PIC though ;)

I agree with you there... esp if it (the pic) does more then one thing.. Oh wait.. I did that already, mode select I called it right??? :P now If Mike would sell that in the shop I would make money for modding again :P

umm in ur tut picture i think you got the positive and the negitive of the speaker around the wrong way, I tried this yesterday.

no im pretty sure its not, my dad sez he doesn't understand how it would work the other way and I trust his electronical engineering word.

You can't...
Title: Re: New way to do sound reactive LEDs

I thought so lol. I tried like 3 different ways that i thought could possibly work. I should of just picked up a switch while i was at Radio shack* or something
Title: Re: New way to do sound reactive LEDs
Post by: bustinthejustin on February 07, 2009, 10:52:53 PM
Yeah. You need an extra switch or use hold switch, but I have no clue how to do that. Somewhat explained above, but I don't get it haha =\

Dip switches are nice for this though. Good and small.
Title: Re: New way to do sound reactive LEDs
Post by: jakeykun on February 08, 2009, 01:46:08 AM
Alright i think i understand it!!!!!

Im thinking that the purple line i made extra could possibly be the hold switch trace,

(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi521.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fw334%2FJakeKun12345%2FPSPSlimPowerboardInfoby4dP.jpg&hash=8a4cfc84fac0f7238e1d73f51734c0770a0c6575)

also maybe those 4 points connecting to the power switch underneath the powerboard could be the trace points.

yea i know but it says its been removed so idk whats the problem. what ever.
