Title: controller mod off judging poll
Post by: Modded Matt on November 18, 2009, 06:27:20 AM
first Acidmods would like to thank all the participants who were involved in this event. We have some very cool controller mods coming out of this competition. There has been alot of work put into these entries, and we appreciate you supporting the acidmods community.

Please keep  in mind these competitions are sponsored in-house and out of pocket, so if anyone ever feels the need to donate to the site, or sponsor an event please contact Me, Robin, or Chives directly.

On to the judging. Everyone was instructed to give a final video for judging, showing all the modifications done to the controller, I have also linked thier worklog thread to each entry so you can see how the mod progressed, so without further adue, here are the finalists in no particular order: Once again thanks for your continued support, it is the members that make acidmods the great place it is.

please keep critisizing coments at bay until the judging is completed, I dont want to sway peoples votes one way or another based on members coments. constructive critisisum belongs in the worklogs attached to each entry

If you would like to congragulate the participants please do so.

please dont post who you voted for, as the poll resultsd will not be released until judging is done.

yeah... about time right? and thanks Jumbo i spent quite a bit of money and time on that controller lol

especially because in the modoff rules it says "You will be scored more for functionality mods than cosmetic mods" and i tried to make a good combination of both. (The D-Pad, Moved Analog Sticks, then the 18-Mode fader/chaser for the ABXY/Dome, and the digital camo paint to match my custom MW2 xbox....) I just think it's rediculous that most modders these days just want to throw LEDs in something and not actually develop something. I miss the F00F00 days of modding when new mods would come out like every week.

Ya it seems the modding scene has changed alot. Most of the old timer modders have left (cyber, f00, nic0 rarely comes around, ect.) and its mostly noobs (no offense to the new people that can actually mod i DO notice you.) and the whole concept of modding has changed from making a console look nice AND work better, to just leds. lol.

Post by: PspKicks316 on November 26, 2009, 01:46:49 PM
Yeah. I agree completely Blackburn. You had my vote.

It really is a shame. Modding sucks these days. Everyone voted for the :censored:ty led mods, like Alman's. We need a competition for the GOOD and REAL modders, the ones who aren't gonna throw leds in a :censored:ty controller, solder like :censored:, and win because their mod is flashy and lights up. We need the modders who know how to mod correctly, and who will provide functionality to something bland.

We need a real competition, not a joke.

To be honest, I'm extremely disappointed in this modoff, and even the people of this forum.
Can't you people see real potential? Real mods?

Modding isn't only about crappy lights. It's about functionality. It's about adding something or modifying something to benefit the user and add functionality where it wasn't before.
Led mods aren't modding. They're cosmetics, and they only count when they're done correctly.

I think we should have a recount, and the voters should be the staff of AcidMods (Mods, Globals, Admins, R&D, News Team, etc.), those who have been here for a while and have seen REAL mods. That is how the voting should be based. It shouldn't be based around letting every member vote, because then you have outcomes like this where the real modders don't get the recognition and the credit they deserve, and that credit is given to those who most definitely do not deserve it.

Kicks i couldnt agree more ive  been recently starting to post pics of my mods. Alo0t of them areant always with systems two atm im building a tube amp for guitar and other stuff but the ones that are for systems do have some leds  but so does every type. soon im going to start another one with motion sensors. but either way kicks is right i go one youtube and people call them modders  when they  just replace the shells with premodded shells from llama and odnt get me wrong llama is a great site however  mods should only be called yours when you do them urself i replace leds/ light up controllers  that is considered my mods but i do alot more.

However the recount part is cool with me, but limiting who can vote is not. This site is a family site/ community. Everyone should be allowed to vote, everyone has the  right to there opninion and by voting  people can exspress what they feel is  the best mod then they should pick that.

nah guys, harden up. The mod off is about having fun, and inspiring new modders. The vote is down to the entire community as it is the entire community that all mods mods are done for.

I do think mat should have removed the "you will score extra points for functionality mods, since there is no way at all to that could be carried out.
Title: Re: controller mod off judging poll
Post by: blackburn on November 26, 2009, 03:27:58 PM
i honestly dont really care... whats done is done. we all know what should have happened, but life is unfair like 99.8% of the time lol

if we are going to do a recount i think it should be say only experienced modders that are "invited" to the vote. Because as far as we know the people could have had people register JUST to vote for them. Ive seen it happen too many times, but if the recount doesnt happen, whatever. Also I think the votes should have been available to view publically instead of private.

And thanks Kicks for your support and your vote! I couldnt agree with your above post any more! :victory:

I don't think there should be a recount as fair or unfair as you think it is. You cant just change the results to please yourself. You should have thought about this before the voting started. Maybe use your idea for the next mod-off but not this one.

What are you even talking about?
This isn't to please myself, this is so that the real modders get a chance to shine instead of all of the noobs who can't do anything for their lives and still win. I wasn't even in it, so how the hell would it be for myself?
This has nothing to do with me, pleasing myself, or "thinking about it before the voting started". I don't run the votes. It was my opinion.
Try reading posts before responding.

>.>
1. he wasn't even IN the mod off....
2. How could you let someone get 2nd place when they cant even solder 3 wires to one pad?
3. How would YOU feel if you made a controller that blatantly deserves a better rank than it gets? i get that you cant go around wanting to win every time, but if its so blatant that its like this its sad.
4. Alman didn't win so w/e, at least spurgurgle won, i voted for him because he seemed to make the best design, functional, and cosmetic...
5. Congrats Spurgurgle, and better luck next time to the people that were close by to the best.
6. Has anyone really been far as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

cheers jumbo

thanks for the vote.....

i wouldnt mind a proper re-vote

i believe some of the other mods should of scored higher and maybe evan won

at the end of the day every1 who finshed there controllers on time did a great job.

and im glad i won but wouldnt of minded losing to 1 or 2 of the better controllers.

-------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT:

1 more thing roll on the next mod off....
hopefully after this 1 more people will enter, finish and vote...
i know im already thinking about my next entry....
and hopefully every1 will relise that modding isnt about who can put more led's in or who can paint the best...

as for the straight up voting system i thought this was whack....

there should be a more detailed public vote that you can mark each controller out of 10 on several different area's such as looks, function, inovation, and praticality or something then basicly the person with the most overall marks at the end wins

i think this would lead to a much fairer voting. cos then every pad can be voted on by every1. (but u can only vote on each entry once. and you cant vote on your own entry)

eg. my pad in this comp i would of given

7 for looks (as it was quite plain but had some good lighting effects)

10 for function as that RF code is very veritile and the new d-pad is better then standard.. and same goes for left anolog placement

10 again for inovation for the dpad and color changing dpad lights
i thought they were quite inovative...

8 for praticallity as the rf code yet good and versitile, has 3 extra buttons and can get confusing to change speed and what not...

there will be no recount, congrats spergurgal on the wil, I think it is a great mod and despite the complaints, the dpad mod you did here is very origional.

people complained like crazy at the last mod off becouse we did staff judjing, now the same complaints when we have member judjing. There is just no way to make everyone happy..

thank you to all participants I appreciate your support for the site, so much so that I am giving eveyone who participated in the event a rapid fire mod chip for the system of thier choice. this is a chip that will work in cod 5 as well as mw2, aswell as awarding the origional prizes as announced. please pm me your address and the system you want the chip for  (xbox or ps3) and I will send out the kits as requested.

matt i think from now on we SHOULD do a new system for voting...

Members vote =1/2 of a vote...staff vote = 1 vote

I think that would be the best way to run votes from now on.

do the rich count as 2 votes and the poor count as one?
Title: Re: controller mod off judging poll
Post by: TwisTtheTwiTcH on November 28, 2009, 07:43:15 PM
Members vote =1/2 of a vote...staff vote = 1 vote

That seems like an amazing image to portray to members new and old. Something to the effect of "Your opinion matters only slightly less than our opinions."

If newer members opinions are not as important than older members and staff why have an open competition in the first place?

If cheating is a concern than somebody should volunteer themselves and a way to monitor who votes maybe watch IP addresses.

Don't worry that was a rhetorical question. Although older members might be more experienced if not more opinionated it is usually the newer members hiring the more experienced modders to do commissioned work.

So before deciding that some should have better privileges or a higher standing that makes there opinion some how seem more important you should consider whom it is that usually pays for your services.

As far as unjust ideas go how about just make people pay for the right to vote and have there opinion counted equally. I've seen there is subscription content available. Charge people to be allowed to vote or even better per vote. It could be 10 cents or 10 dollars.

Then you could control who has voted and pay for prices. Then I suppose the rich would win in the system. There is no simple and fair fix.

You could start another vote: Should Normal Users Be Allowed To Vote.

There are just so many ways to shoot so many things down and I am far from out of ammunition. So anybody who feels up to it argue a point with me, feel free to flame me, or tell me off that is all fine and dandy.

No and I'm a staff.  We could have another system in place to check and balance it but I still think one person one vote is the best.

Only reason i said members less that staff was because i think its more likely for a member to vote for the flashiest mod while i think the more experienced staff member would vote for a better less flashy mod...just saying......3:47 AM :P
Title: Re: controller mod off judging poll
Post by: TwisTtheTwiTcH on November 29, 2009, 09:41:53 AM
Well its a competition. It isn't about how flashy something has to be and it really doesn't matter what the staff thinks. That is the beauty of having your own opinion. If 100 people vote for an nes controller and the staff vote for a 360 controller, and the staff vote won, people would be upset.

Simple fix, either have competitions where anybody can enter and anybody can vote for who they like most. Or don't do it at all. Because changing how much a vote is worth for certain people only successfully displays an almost childish behavior that could lead to fewer new members.

Added: Take into account that people voting may only be looking at the controller for the console they use. Not everybody is a microsoft soft fan boy
