I'M BACK and I bring you Sound reactive RGB LEDS!!! **UPDATE**
« on: October 28, 2010, 01:14:16 AM »
Yes you read that right...

You have seen Sound reactive Leds before.

You have seen RGB's before.

But..... Have you ever seen them both together? With 21 modes? Save color state? Lock color? using only a face button to select modes and save and turn on an off? Well there is more to it then just that..

I know I'm not active on AM anymore, but let it be known that when I mod I do it for the AM Community and the PSP Community as a whole. I have had this mod under wraps for a long time and just had some free time and wanted to share.

Here is a quick look, but MORE DETAILS TO COME..

Let me know what you think..

Thanks,

NiC0

and I know this is not the quality of video I'm known for... hey its 4:30 am give me a break!

PSP Slim with Sound reactive RGB Leds

UPDATE: I just made a quick change of my breakout board which improves the MOD's performance. However this will mean that I need to change my current install. I'll be working on that tonight and releasing a new Video tomorrow.....

Very nice, nic0! Very impressive. Nice to see you back in the game and to see some focus back on the PSP (instead of rapid fire mods)...

we discussed several ways of doing it, but I dont think you ever filled me in on what exactly you were gonna do.

yeah, well see.... ahhhh..... ummmmmm. ahhhhh I gave up.... the only part of the mod I don't like! I choose not to talk about it and when its released I hope someone can fix it. I have an IDEA on why its like that but it stems from the LM386 not the RGB side.

I noted that the mili amps coming out of the lm386 are not as much as the 5 volt source. Which may be why it does that, but the mod works fine as it is... but 2% more would be nice  :boxed:

So will we be seeing a tut or kit for this? I'm very interested to check out some schematics and maybe give this one a shot. Been a while since I've cracked open a PSP and it'd give me a good reason to finally use those RGB LEDs I've had sitting in my parts bin... And maybe port this one to a different system... ;)

Well first thing first... I leaked this last night because I have been sitting on this for a while and timing. I have lots of footage and a song picked out so now I'll make a right proper Video displaying the Mod the Nic0 way.... I have some Hi res images (and if I can find the original install photos from last year, a full installs worth). I already have a tut typed up just need to add photos and clean it up.. And last year I even created an eagle cad of the board layout cutting the install to as few wires as I can.

As for a full disclosure date IDK.. as Chives will tell you I'm only 98% happy with this Mod as there is one thing that bugs me about it. Its more of a tasters choice thing.

As far as a kit... You know me to be open source and I don't have the means or the time to mass produce these so.....

how did you get RGB LEDs in the Triggers. Mine are too big

how do you change the color by pressing the Note button?

Is it only a LM386 or also a controller in the psp?

What bout a TUT?..

Smaller RGB's
Made a Pic that detected the button press and cycle modes.
A Pic and an LM386 or a Transistor wither other parts
Tut one day but its still up in the air..
the install is not as hard as most think.
if you can do a trigger mod in a slim you can do this with ease.
will it fit in a Phat.. umm I bet it could with the right board..
Spent about a year in RnD on this one...

Dude WRONG place to discuss this but I will help you anyway...
Since you are getting 5v output just attach a resistor to your output pin. You need to know the FW voltage of your leds, and amount of voltage you are using, and use a resistor calculator to determine how much resistance you need.
And A PIC is a Programmable Integrated Circuit. The LM386 is an Integrated Circuit, but is not A PIC because it is not programmable. Someone please correct me if I am wrong, I am not the best with electrical knowledge.

Do you also put a resisitor when using LM386?

I use blue ones with 3.2V and 20mA?

Yes I already said that...
On the lm386 there is an output pin. You would add the resistor there. Plug in the supply voltage (5v), led voltage (3.2v) and the led current (20mA) into a led resistor calculator and you should get the rating of the resistor that you need. Also have in account how many leds you are going to use.
