My watercooled 360
« on: November 16, 2007, 01:21:36 AM »
Ok guys I'm back, and here is a little something ive been working on during my disappearance, I'm sure some ppl knew that i was going to watercool my 360, since my first rig fried i got a little obsessed with the whole watercooled xbox business and here is what i came up with. Most parts are form Koolance. No inside pict because i havent documented much, if fact any of the building process but im still going to cut the DVD drive and change the lighting so if i dont forget to take pictures i will post em in the future

P.S.

Current case mods:
- Case sprayed matte black
- HDD Window
- HDD Activity LEDs
- Case Window
- ROL swap red to white, green to blue
- Ultraviolet LEDs in the case
- Xbox security/LEDs switch (Military style)
- CPU Temperature sensor

Watercooling features:
- Koolance heat sinks GPU/CPU
- Exos LT External radiator/reservoir/pump
- Koolance quick disconnect valves
- Zalman extreme Thermal paste
- Thermal Take UV reactive cooling
- Blue UV reactive piping/coils
- Koolance flow meter

Average operating temperature: 46°C

To Do:
- Rewire Leds using straight circuit strips
- Wire Overheating auto shutdown feature to Xbox power button
- Power the Exos using Xbox's power supply
- Install Security power switch (Turned on using a Key) to prevent unauthorized use of the console, accidental poweron without the Exos turned on.

So nice tosee you back here Neubit, friggin sweet 360 you got there.

Have no shame in being kindly and gentle, but if the time comes in the time of your life to kill, kill and have no regret. In the time of your life, live so that, in that wonderous time you shall not add to the misery and sorrow of the world, but shall smile to the infinite delight and mystery of it.

I cut the original xbox fan in 2 and now there is only one fan that blows into the xbox to cool down the ram chips because i have attached copper heat sinks to all the chips. The temperature at the cpu measures at 46 degrees celcius tops when i play games, and the temps are always stable. Watching a dvd i get a solid 35 degress and in standby mode 30-33 degrees.

Since i got the idea it took two months, saving money, planning, picking parts, waiting for parts to arrive, case modding, wiring leds, figuring out how and where to place all components, testing and testing some more, then finally assembling it all together, taking it apart, fixing coolant leaks, putting together again.

I bought a aftermarket faceplate, on those the acrylic is removable ;)

How many hours extra do you think you could play on the watercooled xbox compared to a normal one?
A lifetime :p The overheating problem is completely overcome, i did it on a fresh box with less then 5 hours of play before the cooling was installed, and so far so good.
