12 LEDS in a SLIM
« on: April 02, 2008, 04:13:40 PM »
I am going to put 12 LEDS in my friends SLIM and I want to wire them to the wi-fi switch to turn them on and off.

None of the LEDS will be sound reactive.

4 in the d-pad
4 in the buttons
2 in the triggers
2 for the UMD jewel

My question is this:

I need to bridge the two left pins of the wi-fi switch, and do I wire the negative ends of the LEDS to the far right pin where the blue wire is soldered to in this picture?

And then do I wire the positive ends of the LEDS to the 5V point in this picture?

Last question and I know this is asked all the time, but I can't find an answer and I'm too technically challenged to use the LED calculator:

Do I need a resistor? (I will be using all blue LEDS)

Thanks in advance.  You guys are the best.

yes yes and yes =] i believe blue leds dont need resisters but i still wouldn't trust putting them straight to 5v. just get 1 10ohm and series them. i also know that they heat up and burn out quicker when you wire  them straight to the 5v without a resister. so let me fix my answer. yes yes and 10ohm

Thanks guys!

Will def post some pics when it is done.  I dyed the trim black and have a black custom jewel from Neubit that I'll be putting in there, so it should look pretty hot.

I'm also going to attempt to dye the yellow power socket black (got a spare one just in case it doesn't work out.

I swapped the power/wi-fi and mem stick leds out with blue as well (although I still can't figure out why the mem stick LED stays on all the time, even when the PSP is turned off.

hmm im telling you something is touching that led maybe a resister. just resolder it or make sure none of the metal is touching around its just constantly grounding
