Yup i just ordered my imac today.

3.06GHZ INTEL CORE 2 DUO

it was painful though watching the £1536 leave my acount but it was cheeper than it should of been as i got a 14% discount for been a HE student.

i cant wait to get it

Lol, I knew apple sucked. That's about the same as my laptop except .6Ghz faster CPU and 840Gb more hdd space. Lol. I wanna see pics though, macs are soooo sexual :3

yeh it is awsome and has a funny name but i think i would really find it useful. especially for when using the slingplayer as then i just need to press the button on the virtual remote with my finger and not with the mouse. plus it would be so awsome

imac sounds badarse...try crysis on it, that might do well considering it has an 8800 GS loaded in it..

or are you gona dual boot? if so, what OS?

i will likely dual boot, tri boot or quad boot - definatly dual boot
options
1 - mac os leapord/win xp
2 - mac/win xp/vista
3 - mac/win xp/vista/ubuntu

bit im going to use partitions for organisation as i have a 1tb drive so ima have my itunes on a separate partition and a partition for movies and a partition for pictures

if i was to go for quad boot i would set it out like this

10gb=ubuntu
60gb=vista
80gb=xp
50gb=movies
50gb=pictures & some documents
250gb=music & itunes (and other odd bits)
500gb=rest of mac osx partition

The same way as with a windows machine except you need to do a few extra steps in GRUB for linux or EASYBCD in Windows so it recognizes the mac part I think. Mac bootloaders are completely different then Windows.

you just need to create partitions for your data partitions, linux and vista partitions then you run bootcamp to create a xp partition and install xp then vista then linux(without grub) then you need to double check its left the mac partition as the boot partition and you just hold alt on boot up to choose what drive you want to boot into otherwise leave it to boot into mac. its quite simple i think

using rEFIt its super simple, check that out.
i had linux, windows, and OSX, but it wouldnt check out linux w/o this refit thing

for gaming i would certianly recommend vista (for me its better than xp was!), i heard 64bit was better for gaming..

i say go OSX, Vista, and Ubuntu, a good ol' tri-boot

thats a common misconception, apple does actually not suck; their warranty policies and service can, but the products are amazing; and his specs are much higher and better than the m1530
considering the imac has desktop quality hardware, not mobile chipsets, better graphics card that isn't faulty like in the m1530, better display, better drive...better everything. becasue its a desktop

i wouldnt mind an imac for mehself, but then again i prefer mobile... though i do have a base station i treat my computer as destkop in sometimes (and why i got the fancy keyboard)

as for robin, dont forget to check out the zefyr for your macbook pro, its a neat little fan/heatsink thingy for the macbook and macbook pro line

i have one and its super neat

yeh i just got a email saying its been shipped - should have it by the 29th or before. only another 2 years till my next computer purchase as my computers are each on a 6 year rotation with a 3 year offset so

year 1 - desktop computer
year 2 - nothing
year 3 - laptop
year 4 - nothing
year 5 - nothing
year 6 - desktop computer
year 7 - nothing
year 8 - nothing
year 9 - laptop
etc etc

and thats how i manange to stay relitavly up to date i think plus it means i will be able to sell each item at a resonable price as macs dont depreciate as fast (at the moment) so i can afford a new one

Noah. You don't need to go and say my stuff sucks because it's a laptop. I don't have a retail m1530, you CAN'T go and buy this one from the online store, even customizing it, so stfu. My graphics card isn't faulty, either. So know my

i never said that. the m1530 is a fine machine, its just that you said apple sucks because a top-of the line desktop is equal to your computer, which it isn't, laptops always have been and will be second to their desktop fathers, and even if it is completely custom, which seems unlikely that its so incredably custom that one cannot do it online with the whole dell customize center, it is still second to robin's new imac, as it is a brand new beast. heck, my computer is in the crapper compared to robin's machine

. in any case, i hardly find comparing a laptop to a brand spankin' new super desktop reason to bash an entire company.

as for the GPU, apparently all the mobile 8X nvidia's are all defective, big nvidia scandal, all over engadget and gizmodo. dell even confirmed it themselves, and to stave it off for the time being, sent out a bios update that kicks in the fans earlier to help prevent failing due to heat. so far i think HP and dell were responders, havent heard anything from apple (so i'm hoping that the apple one's arent defective, but it might be the case [though that dosn't matter, because if mine fails i just get a new one, perhaps the penryn...])

Well, I've had the A08 BIOS since I got this, just updated to A09. Never had a problem with my GPU, never had a problem with overheating or the fans, either. I've left my laptop on for over a day and it's been fine. Maybe I'm just lucky.
And I never said Apple in general sucks I suppose. I guess how I thought it and how it was typed was different xD I was just saying it apple sucks cuz like, the specs are the same as a good laptop by Dell. I never said it was WORSE then the laptop.

I dunno. Lol.

a mac pro + screen + second screen + my Speakers + hard Drives = no room in my dorm and no money left in my pocket

Imac + Second Screen + speakers + hard Drive = some room left in my and some money left in my pocket

as a base mac pro with a 23" screen, 4gb ram, 1 tb hard drive, and a 512 mb graphics is over £3000 where as my imac came to £1800.

i will get a mac pro in 6 years time (next time i get a desktop), and a new macbook pro in 3 years time.

yeh i have each system on a 6 year rotation so i will get a new laptop just as im about to do my year out in industry wherever that may be and a new desktop the year after i leave.

i am a bit of a speed adict as well but only ocasionally and an imac will be fast enougth for me plus i can wait 6 years till i can then aford a very high end mac pro

i just got an email back from troll touch and decide that im not going to get the touch screen as with postage etc it comes to over $1000 and i just cant afford that at the moment
