Computer will not turn on
« on: December 19, 2008, 05:50:42 AM »
So last night I installed vista on my computer. So now I am dual booting XP and vista. Got me so far, good now get this! So I am playing around with vista for about 30 minutes or so and then I hit shut down. So windows does it's little shut down stuff then I hear the fans and hard drive shut off but then I see that the leds in my fans and the display in the front of my computer are still on, but are very dim. There should be no lights or anything on at this point. So now I am thinking what the heck? So I go hit the power button and the computer will not turn on... I left it unplugged all night and then tryed turning it on today and get the same result... Any help would be greatly appreciated

Reformat and start over? It sounds more like a hardware failure of somekind, not havind to do with a dule boot

That's a hardware thing, check your PSU, I'm thinking it may have failed and it's not putting enough juice into the system.

So I came home and decided to see if it was the power supply that was causing the problem so I jump started the power supply and all the fans and that came on. So then I started unplugging pci cards and usb stuff and it turns out that my external HDD was causing the problem, I usually have it plugged into the on board usb's but for some reason last night I plugged it into my PCI USB card and well I guess I wont be doing that again. Thanks for your help guys

I had a similar problem a while ago. I had a Ipod Shuffle plugged into my computer and it will not boot. It would freeze while posting.
