Replacing harddrive

I have already tried searching but found nothing....sorry if i missed it

what i want to do is replace the 360's hard drive with a bigger one.....but not buying the M$ 360 drive....too expensive.....is it possible to take the actual hard drive out of the OEM housing and replace it with a laptop drive......would there be a specific brand or speed i would have to use??

im pretty sure iv'e heard of it being done....i just cant find where

It has to be a specific brand, a western digital laptop hdd. I don't remember the exact series, but it can only be one of those.

When replacing, you need to obtain the [illegal] security sector file for the hdd. You'll have to flash a modified firmware to it, and the sector, and then you can use it.

You can't use any size though. You can use a harddrive 20gb-59gb  and use it as 20gb, 50gb-119gb and use it as a 60gb drive, or use any 120gb hdd and higher(not too high) as a 120gb hdd only.

Why? Because you HAVE to flash the microsoft hdd security sector, which you can only get off of a legit drive. And, there's currently only 20gb, 60gb, and 120gb official drives.

I don't know what the exact harddrive models are, but I'm sure someone on here knows.

And as far as I know it's illegal to distribute the sector. I might be wrong though.

Western Digital Scorpio WD1200BEVS 120GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive. Only 54 bucks too :)

Simple Google Search Found this.. I read it before and had it Bookmarked. You just cant Replace The HDD so I heard and Read.. But I know someone who has a 300gig HDD in there xbox He used to take it to the Movie theater when they had XBOX LAN Parties.. Maybe he did this Who knows... (He never told anyone how he did it.. Nah He had all his games On it Plus Movies, Music.. He Had about 130ish gigs Used... So I really Dunno Kicks. I know its Pictures or it didn't happen kinda thing, But I Think they stoped the LAN parties since the new Manager started..

He is/was most likely just using it as a storage drive.  You can hook up a USB drive to the Xbox 360 and access the movies/mp3 files on it.  I'm guessing that you could replace the standard HD on the 360 as well, but it can only be used to read information from it.  Without the security sector/firmware, the Xbox won't be able to write information to it.

Llamma has some tutorials on the HD replacement procedures for the 360.  Take a look there...
