Fixing a Dell 1905FP LCD monitor that i found
« on: January 06, 2009, 10:06:43 AM »
I went to my local recycling center to throw away cardboard and i found a 19" Dell 1905FP monitor there. I took it home and checked it out but it didnt power on. I then took it apart and took out the power board:

2 capacitors were popped

I put in 2 new capacitors that i got from other power boards that i had.
It works!

I hope this helps anybody who has a broken monitor

Good job! My buddy picked up two 50" plazmas from a bar for $20 each cause they were broken and he swaped the power boards and now has two 50" tv's. I have another friend who has worked doing AV work and has made quite abut of cash fixing and selling old TV's people were throwing out

That's awesome. I always thought ripping apart monitors, tvs, and power supplies were a bad idea due to the capacitors though.

yes it can still be dangerous but no if you take some precautions.

Also an good example of why you should allways use a surge protector, not just a power strip

so,...
a friend has a broken Samsung T220
only 50% of the screen works :S
it's divided by a diagonal line from upleft to downright

the upright side of the diagonal line works.
the downleft side doesnt work.

any guess what is wrong with it?

Yeah it is worse. I would not recommend shocking yourself. To be on the safe side just wait 5 minutes.

The problem is with the LCD. Try putting some pressure on the ribbon cable that is directly attached to the glass. Ive heard that people have fixed PSP video issues (such as random color lines) by putting a gumwrapper under neath the button panel in the problem area. Also reseating the flex cable. Ill try to get pics of what im talking about

Vlad you should edit your post. Also, you ARE NOT safe when you leave a cap unplugged for only 5 minutes. Some caps can hold charges for well over a year.

Not in LCD monitors. I have checked capacitors with a multimeter. They hold a charge for 30 seconds.
