Best way to repair cd scratches
« on: January 10, 2009, 10:29:46 PM »
Ok guys I went to my local gamecrazy yesterday and I saw a employee throwing away a bunch of ps2/xbox games (about a 100 of them  :dribble:) and some broken xbox controllers.  They said they were too scratched to work anymore.  So anyway I went dumpster diving (please no jokes) and got all the discs.  Went home tested a few and they worked.  But most of them have medium and light scratches while few of them have deep cd scratches.  I know that about 70% of these are repairable.

what I need to know is what is the best cd/dvd scratch remover on the market.  I need to try and fix about 100+ discs. I don't want a diy solution, I want a industrial solution. Does anybody know what I should get to try and remove the scratches?

Does it really work? I heard some bad reviews on it.

What I might do if I can't fix most of them is download them and play like on the ps2 hdd or something similar.  It's now legal now that I have the original disc :P.  They said that they throw away stuff like this every week so I might do this to get some more games.

I was thinking about buying this one

or this one

This raises another question to mind.  WHO n their right mind thinks of rubbing tooth paste OR putter butter on a cd to fix it?!!!   :eyebrow:

Lol desperate people? I suppose since tooth paste is supposed to help clean gunk off your teeth, it has to be atleast slightly corrosive, doesn't it?

Nope.

Toothpaste is microscopic grains on sand, as well as other things.

nothing corrosive.

Toothpaste FTW

Not sure how it works, but just does, cover the cd in toothpaste, leave for a few seconds, then wipe it, but it should leave toothpaste in the scratches

I was thinking about buying this one.  What do you guys think.  It will be too hard to do the tooth paste method for all 100 cds.
