first mod qeusestions
« on: April 15, 2009, 05:55:12 PM »
i'm pretty good at soldering and was wondering if it would be worth the effort to solder an internal sd memory card based off of Aliander's POC. would anyone know if somthing like this switch idea would work?
if not do you have any suggestions?

I'm not too sure, but from my understanding, you'd need to have a switch on either the data+ contacts or data- contacts.

As Darkshot said, you need a switch on the data+ pin. BUT, that's for USB and I'm not sure how different MS Pro Duos are.

As for the switch, you need a spdt switch (3 prong switch), and you will put the middle pin to the psp mobo, and each side pin to each memory card.

Well, when it comes to Pro Duos, having power to the card is not an issue, so I am wondering if you only really need a switch to disconnect the insertion pin and either the DATA+ or DATA- pin for the selected memory card.

I want to make a permenant internal memory stick Pro Duo, but still want to use my regular card slot on the WIFI board.

i dont think i need any data switches, but thearkman2009 are you saying that the memory cards will still read/write without the power pin connected? i was just thinking that if you would flip the switch it would lose power in the MSPD and switch to the SD card. :dntknw:
Typing on PSP= :censored: dead thumbs

thanks blazingkaos, found out two pins i could put a switch on(duct taping pins with trial and error), and they are the 6th and 7th pins. the pin outs are
6    INS    Insertion Detection pin
7    DATA3    Data Line 3
MSPD Pinout
now i know what pins i can switch i just need to know which one.

I think that removing the INS pin, would only tell the mobo that THAT memory stick is no longer in, but if you then connect the second memory sticks INS pin, the mobo would not know that there is 2 memory sticks, and therefore the correct stick to write to.  So if you had two of the same exact card, with the exact same specs, formatted the exact same way, you could (possibly) create a sort of RAID system.  (useless I think, but might still be possible)

So if thats the case, then I WOULD have to have one switch to disconnect the POWER from the memory stick I DONT want to use.  Right?

I just received my two new MSPD card slots in the mail.  Getting ready to hook them up once I get this working.

did some more testing and found that even though the light flashes on and off the 9th pin could work.
now i just need to find out what one to use, probably not the ISN because as thearkman2009 said it could still be readable/writeable. Either the power or the DATA3 :help:

Well, the stick requires a power supply to operate, but if you disconnect the power pin, will there still be enough power going through the data lines to actually change any data bits on the stick?  Because if not, then all you have to do it change the power pin between the two cards, and thats that.

i don't know how this sounds but i bet you could test it on a photofast dual sd conveter (the 4th pin i think)

i also found this:
Source
the missing lines are:
5    DATA2    Data Line 2
and
7    DATA3    Data Line 3
