looking for a job
« on: July 10, 2009, 08:39:49 AM »
i need to get a job
ima be goin to college around sept
i need some suggestions
im leaning strongly towards lowes or home depot
i prefer the layout of lowes tho

i was also thinking of target
i dont want any suggestions for gamestop or best buy
gamestop treats their employees like crap
and bestbuy staff around here are :censored:

i do have work experience at a store called albertsons
i was a cashier and a curiosity clerk for a year

i like how lowes pays
its about 8.75 and bumps up to 9 after 90 days
then a raise every 3 months
not bad for my age

i think home depot would be about the same
plz no posts that u make 12 or 30 /hr for i will delete them
i want some honest opinions
preferably from older people/ people who have had jobs

if you at school, UPS would be good. im not sure if there still doing it, but when i worked there wile i was going to school the had $3,000.00 worth of tuition reimbursement all you had to do was sign up for it. you worked from 4pm to around 10pm-12pm depending on the volume of boxes that night. it was around 8.50 an hour with raises every set amount of time. you work Monday-Friday and once you hit seniority you get full benefits for only working a part time job full vision, dental, medical its a good deal. it is hard physical labor but you will be in good shape by the end of it. i put on upper boddy muscles and had my weight down to around 185lbs-195lbs after not working for them for a little over a year i have (with no real phyiscal activity to speak of) i have shot up to around 230lbs

the only other thing i would suggest would be Starbucks they have the same deal ware you only work 20 hours a night and they still give you full benefits. you also get your cut of the tips made and there hours a quite a bit more flexible.

bolth would be good options to look in to

yeh subway can get swamped at times but its fun and you feel good about working in a team as if one messes up the entire line falls out of place. the other day we did about 200 sandwiches in an hour

i didn't like it because there were problems that they would not fix like broken equipment, boxes that are to long or weigh to much to come over the conveyor belts that they put on there any way, and i didn't get along with my general manager because i got him in trouble with the district manager when he got caught lying and i wouldn't back him up.

drivers are ware its at, they make lost of cash but it takes along time to make it to a driver, at that point its almost a full time job.

If you know how to weld or use machineries, work at a
metal fabrication shop. I work for my dad. When it's just
general help like assembly, cleaning up, grinding, I get paid
12.50 per hour. When I'm welding, (MIG and TIG) I get paid 17.50.
I learned how to weld in about 1 weeks time. Yes there's sparks heading towards your crotch, yes welding slag burns when I hits your shoe when your welding 5/8 steel, but it's damn good pay considering I'm an 11th grader.

Trust me there is plenty of demand. Welding has become alot cleaner than it was 60 years ago. Also, many companies have fans or vaccums that suck the fumes out when your welding. My dads been fabricating for 32 years, and hasn't had a single problem.

I'm a full time welder and I cant complain about the money I make. I make more than double of any of my friends that actually have jobs. but yet again, I have been working there for over a year now and working 50 hour weeks

I work 3 jobs, one at a deli, one as a part time contractor and then I also do work around the farms here.  You just gotta do stuff that makes you happy, I personally hate the deli, but my parents own it so I have to help them with the business.  I get paid 10 an hour there... the contractor job is a flat 100 bucks a day but I'm working @ 6am and home @ 630ish when I do it.  The farm work is always different, but my last job payed 75 bucks an hour running one of my tractors for the guy, so definitely my favorite...
