120gb, 34% less power consumption, 32% smaller, and only $300.
Price cuts coming to existing ps3s starting tomorrow.

Ps3 slim will be available the first week of September..

only if you are looking for an expensive blueray player. I haeve the phatty, and it plays movies very well...games, not so much

I would buy one but I got the original 60gb launch model that plays ps2 games and I only paid $300 for it. It seems that I didn't need wait for the price cut

. Unless it has some new features that I really like/want I'll consider it but I really don't see the need to get one now for me.

It's great though that sony finally decided to get competitive in the console market again. Maybe they will be able to get some more good exclusives and they could bring their console up.

but thats in teh living rooma nd i can never get on it cuz of my lil brother
so i guess ill get a slim for my room
so ill have slim ps2 and slim ps3 and 360 all on a 5.1 with a 22 in lg lcd in my face and a custom pc
room full of win

do we know if it will use the same aux port on the back that phat ps2 slim ps2 and phat ps3 used
if so that will make things easy for hdmi and 5.1
room full of win

you should be able to unless sony changes the cable. Sony has been known to do that to the psp's but not so much with the ps1,2,3 series.

I was speaking of the system in general, i am a xbox guy. I own a ps3, it is almost brand new. I dont play games on it though, as I like to be able to speak to my friends, join sessions in progress, hell join any match with friends with a press of one button, it has no voice messaging system at all. messages are all text. If you own an xbox, and buy the ps3 you will be disapointed. and if you have never owend a 360, you are missing out on what online gaming is all about.

cool its ok - what pisses me off though is that sony STILL havnt included any usb ports on the back of it - not everyone wants the front if there TV stand to loook like a

If you are able to return it, do it! Return and buy a another one (or wait for the slim) at the new price. If your smart you may be able to get the store to give the credit of a $100. But by all means RETURN IT! Get your money back. Buyers have a right to regress for a reason.

1. You can get a broken 60gb on ebay and send it sony to get it fixed for around $250. you can get a "full" ps3 this way but you have a wait about a month. You also may be able to get it for cheaper depending on how much the broken one is. This is the best route if you want to get a "full" ps3 and it's not that hard at all. pm me for more details you want to go this route.

2. You can buy a new phat one (not recommended). Honestly WHO uses linux on a ps3? If you have a computer (which most people do) why use a game console as one? I understand there are exceptions but unless you plan on using it EVERYDAY it's not worth your money as you can just go out and buy a computer. A game system should just be a game system. If your going to buy a phat ps3 go find a 60gb launch model (I can help if you need it) and get that so you get "everything"

3. Buy a slim ps3. It's same thing that's currently on the market minus the linux. It's newer so it SHOULD last longer and have more support in the future. Also accessories manufactures tend to make stuff for the newer consoles. If you don't need linux and ps2 playback this is the route to go, otherwise see #1.

uhh...no, it is being compared to the lnew live update, not the live system. not the same. the latest live update was some useless features. and PS is adding these same usless features to there system. If you ask me, they should catch up on the comunity features other than rating features. here are the key features for the ps3 firmware 3.0 update. this is more wasted space on my harddrive.

Ability to rate other gamers on the network
Ability to report bad activities by others on the network
Ability to download updates and patches in the background
Ability to output HDMI video and digital optical audio simultaneously

still no voice chat with friends
still no join in progress
still no party system
market plase still way behind
still have that tiny crappy controller
no avitar system
no avitar games
no camera video chat games
still must install intrusive software to stream, as apposed to media center

these are just FACTS off the top of my head

i'm banned from owning a console in my house forever (btw as my mom just bought herself tons of expensive crap she doesnt need, she "doesnt have my $260" for my broken xbox, so i'm gonna have to wait for her nonexistant paycheck)... not my siblings, they didnt have to buy their own either, just me... yet i can still build a gaming pc....hmm.....

but if i could get one, i would replace my xbox for sure. theres just no beating live. being able to have a party full of friends all joining in one big game and actually being able to talk to each other was the sh :censored:t man. i had a ps2, it was cool for about 2 months then got old. same with psp, they became movie machines. and from what i hear, the ps3 is turning into the same thing.

I will agree with you that joining on progress and party systems is VERY nice (and the ps3 could do it too if sony ever decides to implement it but I think micro$oft has it patented or copyrighted or something of that nature) and helpful but I want to point out some things to you.

I always liked the psn marketplace over the xbox 360 marketplace (and I'm not talking about content) The reason being is that it's LOOKS BETTER and YOU CAN ACTUALLY TELL WHERE YOUR GOING. I absolutely loath the "new xbox experience" I think it's stupid, ad filled, and a step backwards. I mean look at it 3 of the "channels" are all ads! and their entire marketplace is based off of it. I can't tell where the video is or where the games are. It's a mess. Where as sony's is way more organized and easy to tell where everything is.

In short if there was a way to get the "old and better" xbox dashboard back I would do it in a heartbeat (or less then that).

It's not a crappy controller. Who likes what controller and why is their own opinion. I like them both and I'm happy with the way sony made it. For those of you who still can't get over it there's a 3rd party that makes a special controller called "shadow wireless controller" for the ps3 which is basically a xbox 360 controller on the ps3. Also you can make your own.

the avatar system and the mii systems are jokes and are stupid. Honestly I can't believe that you are bashing the ps3 because of this. WHO goes out and buys and xbox 360 for the friggin AVATAR SYSTEM?! on the same note WHO buys avatar games for THEMSELVES? (I know people buy it for their kids but that doesn't count). The ps3 doesn't need a KIDDY system to be cool.

Ps3 does have a video camera chat. It's called the eye of judgement. I don't think there's any games but on the same note I think there are very few games/players on the xbox 360 that use it too

I never had to and it works fine for me. Using windows media center to do it.

Screw it all, im gettin an atari 2600.

If you ask me, id say get ps3 fat. It looks a HELLUVA lot nicer. The gloss
compliments the console much better. The slim looks like a Red headed step child who no one wants (no offense to anyone). Im expecting the slim to have more freeze ups than the fat. also, its butt ugly. They could at least put the tiniest bit of chrome on it. PLZ sony?!? Also the old ps3's use a cool power button and eject button, but they went cheap and actually used clickable buttons on this. Henceforth, get the fat. Ill hold on to my precious 60gb gone 500, no matter how skiny the ps3 will get, if it has less crap and horrible quality.

Almost forgot. If they SOMEHOW by a miracle of god hack the drive to play backups, ill take back all i said and go and buy one.
