This new PS3 patch for COD4 is a totally new beast. They've re-done all the internal programming of the game. If you try to just use your finger, you can't even fire very fast anymore. It's not just rapid fire that's affected in COD4, it's all fire. Even try using it in an offline game. I'm assuming they're gonna use the same scheme for modern warfare 2, where internal game programming is gonna limit the speeds, not network patches. This was an actual game patch, not a network filter.

So its completely destroyed any chance of rapid fire on cod mw ? :(

If the game designers really did their homework on the weapons they are using, there would have never been rapidfire in the first place.  If they think that limiting the fire rate slower then the average finger pull then they will ruin the game.  FPS multiplayer is won and lost with fractions of a second, too bad for whoever decides to use this on their games because it will be one of the decisions made by a CEO who doesnt know his bum from a hole in the wall and will ruin the gameplay.

COD series games are not popular because of RapidFire, and in fact i dont ever notice it when I play, cuz they dont tell you what weapon the guy you killed was using. (dont use RF cuz it doesnt make me any better)  However what made COD popular is gameplay, mess with the gameplay by capping fire rates and just watch and see the end of an era.

Way to go corporate fat cats, heaven forbid people are using turbo functions on their controllers... I guess if you guys dont like having one of the most popular game series of all time, then by all means ruin it for everyone, not just the cheaters.

I agree 100% with what Chives said.
MW2 looks to be one hell of a game, and I for one can't wait for it. If they limit it, though, oh man I'm gonna be pissed ><

I have had rapidfire controllers since the day i got a 360. Thing is i rarely used them for it. I might use it once in a while just to have some fun and make everyone angry so i just run around shooting the pistol at 30 SPS. Thing is, if you cap the GAME AT SPEEDS THAT PEOPLE CAN ACTUALLY PULL THE GAME IS GOING TO FAIL HARD. They just ruined the game for all PS3 users. One of the most fun things to do is increase your skills to see how fast YOU can actually shoot. But thats over....

Also i never really minded playing against people with RF because it doesnt really increase your skills.   Might help alittle but not much.

MW2 is "supposed" to have selectable rates of fire. as with the GRAW series, but as we know with graw, if you put the selector on single shot and turn on rapid fire it eliminates recoil. lol. all we can really do is wait and see. but as of right now there is no cap on xbox live.

Ok - I had to update COD 4 earlier today, but I haven't got any controllers with mods :/ so I cant tell if any patch is active, i seem to be able to fire quite quick with my pistol, but thats about it.

Tbh I haven't - I tried my hardest to shoot fast with my trigger finger but nothing :/. Maybe its just stopping rapid fire, OR is it just limiting every gun to a certain speed?

My slow speed in COD4 mode shoots faster than my fast speed in the same COD4 mode and that's around 9.5 sps.

Remember this is for XBL...

I have a 5 mode chip. The slower speeds work, the faster speeds are choppy and slower.
I think they lowered the cap a little bit is all. Unaltered fire seems to be fine still.

I have like 100 PICs I JUST got in the mail:(  Atleast it isn't all of XBL that has gotten patched. I tested COD5 it still works.

Also, does the COD4 speed need to be slower now. Do you think 9 sps would work?

12 was good for me, but I can tell its not actually 12. It looks more like 10. The days of 20 SPS are gone. If you have an adjustable controller, you can find the right speed for each weapon (it seems to differ with each pistol) to what I would consider a 'medium' speed in terms of COD 4 speeds before the patch. I only tooled around with it for 30 minutes. Its definately a different beast than the COD5 patch.

Oh, and with the mod off, I notice when i 'feather' the trigger, it does not fire as fast as I am pulling the trigger.

It looks more like they finally wised up and made the game the right way. I played around with the mod for 5 minutes on Live and forced myself to use singleshots only and in my honest opinion, the gameplay seemed more realistic and challenging. I dont think it ruins the gameplay for non-mod users.

My thoughts to add on the pile:

10SPS.  I'm calculating something like 11.2 but it's always slower in reality than my calculations due to overhead (MPLAB's simulator is GAY, much too hard/not worth the time to set up the simulator and get a better estimate).  Usually about 10-15% slower than my calcs is the real speed.  So somewheres around 10SPS would be my guesstimate.

The filter isn't the same exact filter used in COD5.

I played with some customers, I kind of like playing at 9-10 SPS compared to the ridiculous turbospeed from before the 9/3 patch.  I actually play better at a lower firing rate anyway (mostly because I suck?  lol)

Post Merge: September 04, 2009, 12:14:01 AM

Keep tinkering with your codes, I was guessing something a bit higher than 6.6sps, maybe I'm wrong.

Got to give credit to IW for their new patch, seems rather than penalise RF controllers by doing the COD5 1sps, they have programmed every weapon to have a max fire rate.  So regardless of how fast above the max rate your code goes, it'll only shoot at the max rate programmed by them for that weapon.
In my spilt screen testing I found you do have a choice on 'stutter v speed'.  If you go with say 10sps you'll feel less stutter on the pistols and G3, however you lose speed like-for-like against the G36, SAWs etc.

My ideal combo is M4/M16 overkill M21 on speeds of around 10sps.

I agree with this guy. There is no cap. Its that there is no way to go faster because its programmed into the actual game that each gun can only go that speed. I used to play COD4 with 10sps when i did use RF. And i remember how the G3 was. Not at all the same anymore. IW screwed us atm lmao.
