BACKLIGHT CONNECTOR COMPLETELY BROKEN OFF

I was taking apart my PSP and I broke the clip that connects the backlight to the motherboard. I completely removed it after I broke it. Has anyone broken it before and is there a way to fix it? I found a brand new backlight clip on eBay for $5 shipped but it is located in China and I don't know how I would attach it, as reattaching a new one would require very careful soldering. Can anyone help me with this problem and/or give me some advice? Has anyone had to fix this part before? Thanks.

You shouldn't have removed the whole connector... You could still get it to work without the clip. You just had to push down the pins and keep the cable in place with some tape. You may need to solder a new connector on and it is very hard. I tried to replace a DS P6 connector and I couldn't do it.

At first I could not insert the ribbon cable. I tried to fix the prongs but I ended up braking off two of them so I removed the whole connector.

get a new connector and solder it on, use flux and you will find it easy in comparison, apply the solder to the heated part and not the iron aswel

This is what it looks like. Would I be able to cover the whole area where the connector broke off with solder and put on the new connector, or would there be a short? Or can I bridge the four connections at the top of where the connector broke off? I already bought a new connector off of eBay. I have a 25 watt soldering iron. Is this too high wattage to solder on the connector? I have some solder and some flux. I have never soldered before. Please help  me

ok here is what you do make sure you follow this to the T otherwise you might do it wrong.

1. cover the area in flux but make sure you can still see the pads
2. place the new connector in the right place
3. place the fully heated soldering iron on each point long enough to allow the existing solder to melt but not so long that you may damage the mother board

you should not need to use any extra solder but if you cant get the clip sldered on with what solder is there then
1. place the solder wire next to the pad you want more on
2. "scrape" some off the end of the wire onto the pad
3. use flux (solder paste) so that it lays flat to the edges of the pad
4. do the first set of steps

alternatley if you dont want to do it then you could get some one else to fix it for you, you could post an add in the modders for hire section or see if someone replies here.

i will do it for you if you want but i live in the UK dunno where you live but if you arent bothered about paying the postage then i would charge you £2 seen as you know how to take your psp appart you could simply send me the motherboard aswell for a repair (and clip obviously).

I accidentally removed one of the four connections at the top of the area where the connector use to be as you can see in the photo. Can I just put solder over it or did I screw up my motherboard? So I can just put solder over the whole area where it broke off, right? And the motherboard is a TA-081 version.

If you removed all the solder on it, then you won't be able to connect the pin to it.

That happened to me too! I was trying to flip the black notch up with my nail because flat head does no good to me. And I plucked it off, even though it broke.

I just insert the ribbon and works like a charm!

you could direct solder the backlight connectors to the mobo or if you wanted to put a new connector on then you need to scratch the trace behind that pad that has been removed so you can put some solder on to link it to the area where the pad should be and then the solder should fill the gap when the connector is there.
