he was spacing it so it displays properly for other people.

looking through that list, just a few things i'd like to point out:

instead of one 2tb hdd, consider buying two 1tb drives. that way if one fails, you still have the other one to hold you over while you wait for the replacement. really you'll probably be fine either way.

instead of 8gb or ram, my suggestion would be to go with 4gb and put the money towards a better gpu. the gpu you listed will do the job, but there are definitely better cards out there and if you plan on gaming you're going to be wanting more.

i'm not sure why you have a laptop hdd to desktop hdd converter to IDE, then an IDE to sata converter, but i'm going to assume that you want to backup files off of a laptop hdd?

full tower cases tend to be quite large, i wouldn't plan on fitting it on or under your desk. make sure you have room for it somewhere.

1. crappy case go with a case thats has alot of airflow. antec 900 or better yet a 1200. full towers give much better circulation.

2.crappy card. ud be better off going with something in the 4 series. ima be getting a asus 460gtx oc 1gb soon.

why do u need need 2 4gb ram sticks. u planning on going 16 gigs?

if you want a awesome system id tell u to dump all this junk.

also i hope u have a ape :censored: cooler for ur possessor, cuz amds like to run hot. and 125 watts wont help.

i dont mean to be a ass but have u messed with computers before.
if not id tell you to redo your list.

also yeah go with 1 tb hdd's you can run raid.  if one goes under you have a temp back up
what i would do is use one hdd for pc operations and have my pc do backups everynight to secondary hdd

edit.

also your top question is a trick question. mobo, cpu, gpu if you go gaming.
adding a good amount of money to cpu cooler also isnt a bad idea.
i spent about 50 on cooler
and it keeps my q6600 quad at 12-20c idle. i dont remmember what its under load was. all i remmember it was awesome

1. crappy case go with a case thats has alot of airflow. antec 900 or better yet a 1200. full towers give much better circulation.  i just picked a random case with a window and a bunch of drive bays.

2.crappy card. ud be better off going with something in the 4 series. ima be getting a asus 460gtx oc 1gb soon.  its better than the one i had listed earlier.

why do u need need 2 4gb ram sticks. u planning on going 16 gigs? eventualy yes

if not id tell you to redo your list. ive taken the dell appart and put it back together many times.  and no, i dont think your being too rude asking me that.  ::)

also yeah go with 1 tb hdd's you can run raid.  if one goes under you have a temp back up
what i would do is use one hdd for pc operations and have my pc do backups everynight to secondary hdd  I was going to backup everything to my dell.  well, just the things i paid for and important documents :)

Eh, the parts you listed will be just fine. You said you're not doing heavy gaming with it, so you shouldn't have a problem with it.

Only thing I suggest is a PCI-express WiFi card and not a plain PCI WiFi card. PCI-express is faster ;)

Oh, and yeah get an Antec case. Or a Lian-Li if you want to spend the money :P

your parents don't allow you to play fps games? do it anyway, take control of the network, hold it hostage if they attempt anything. fps games are the best part of owning a pc.

Why use an nvidia card if not playing fps games? Go for the cheapo ati equivalent.

ive  played one before at my cousins house.  and controlling the network would get me grounded and possibly end my account here. :(

meh... they'll always be around. some parents feel the need to shelter their children from everything they consider bad, but IMO that just means the real world will be a far greater shock for them as a young adult. A healthy social life will help them acquire vital social skills, if you walk around acting shocked and appalled to every little thing as an adult people will think you're crazy. still, to each his own, they can raise their children however they want.

im already doing that to build my pc.

expect it to become more strict.

good reasons? your good reasons should be you're paying for the equipment, it costs them nothing, and you become that much more tech savvy.

they're givving me 300 to help me build this with enough money. im paying all the rest (700) so I can build this.  also they think im already too tech savvy so that wont be a pro.Ive told them that if i dont get wifi then the build will be off. I told them that if i couldn't do fps games that I would build this thing then not use it. (aka a wast of $1000)  any other ideas?

DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT ACT FOR A SECOND LIKE THERE IS ANYTHING IN IT FOR THEM! saying things like "oh well then FINE! i just won't build it" will get you nowhere. instead, convince them that it is in your best interest. mention that you are VERY interested in electronics, possibly considering a career involving computers. tell them building the computer is a learning experience for you, and mention that a computer without networking is like a car without wheels. you won't learn much without access to the internet, it is a VITAL self education resource. make it sound like the pros far outweigh the cons. the fps games are trickier, you'll have to use the old "it'll keep me out of trouble" route, which doesnt always work. good luck

DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT ACT FOR A SECOND LIKE THERE IS ANYTHING IN IT FOR THEM! why? because they will come upstairs and play cod4 on it all day? lol I cant picture my mom or dad throwing virtual grenades on a pc that isnt even theirs.   their in their 40's lol  saying things like "oh well then FINE! i just won't build it" will get you nowhere. instead, convince them that it is in your best interest. already done mention that you are VERY interested in electronics, possibly considering a career involving computers. they already know about this because my highschool classes are already set up for a tech degree.  tell them building the computer is a learning experience for you, thats why im getting the $300   and mention that a computer without networking is like a car without wheels. llol if he doesn't allow wifi i could take the wheels off his firebird to show him what its like! lol jkd you won't learn much without access to the internet, it is a VITAL self education resource.  that is true because they want me off their pc PERMANENTLY! make it sound like the pros far outweigh the cons. ya about a year ago one of my friends searched some stuff up on my psp. it was stuff they shouldnt be looking at.  :dntknw:  thats a big con they seem to come back to every time we talk about building this.  maby resolve this by some usb pic with a 5 ft range rfid for a pc lock and key?  as long as im out of range it locks the keyboard and mouse? maby put the transmitter in my watch and pic in my usb hub?  the fps games are trickier, you'll have to use the old "it'll keep me out of trouble" route, which doesnt always work. ya if i dont get this pc il be getting a laptop which will have wifi already :) good luck  thanks i just might need it.

instead of creating some overcomplicated locking mechanism, why not just hit windows+l when you're leaving your computer. that takes you to the lock screen, set your user account up as admin with a password, and kick your friends ass for watching porn on your psp

or just tell your friends not to get you in trouble, followed by you learning how to delete your browsers web history.

either way should work and keep you out of trouble.

Its a bird! its a plane!  no thats another one of those sick-minded tards getting kicked in the butt.

or just tell your friends not to get you in trouble, followed by you learning how to delete your browsers web history. ya i know how to do that.

either way should work and keep you out of trouble.  not so sure about the kicking them in the but part...
oh btw will this card work?http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814187111

Haha, well if you want to do PhysX, I would recommend a different GPU setup. When are you going to be buying these parts? nVidia is coming out with the GTS 450 and the GT 430 very soon (they're ridiculously cheap!) So, I would do this: Get a GTS 450 as your main, and then get a GT 430 as your PhysX card. However, the 430 is still rumor, so again, wait a while until nVidia officially announces it. If they don't (or if it's OEM only), then I would recommend a GT 240 (which is what I have, and will be using for PhysX in the future).

i would not recommend buying a lower end card and a dedicated physx card instead of a higher end card. you won't pick up the fps you lose by using a lower end primary card. go with the gtx 465.
