I need to think about this one for a bit. I feel like the answer is looking me in the face, but cant put my finger on it, its been a long day at work, and will be going home soon. but

I would assume that the dpad works just like the rest of the cg buttons, and each terminal needs to be grounded to activate. this means you need a comon ground in the nub all I see is up,down,left,right... but what are they conecting to when activated????

just wondering doesnt it have to be connected to the ground, I only see 4 wires going to the up down left and right  but nothing connecting it to either hte power or the ground?

you need a ground point that all the buttons would share, that's where the razor comes in to play.

Use a meter and test the bored. each button uses a ground so there s a start, and same for the nub. Ill look around and get back to you.

you might have burnt out a resistor, or something else, you should start checking all the points on your d-pad and the rest of the mobo, and check the nub.

i belive its ur ground still it does not go to ground of each button here
pin 8 also known as the ground goes to the negitive spring on your controller board this is your ground connect the ground to the black dot. only picture i can find with the time i have.

maybe you can use a transistor to connect each side of the buttons. if you use a npn transistor solder the base to the thumb stick you are using then use the other two pins and see witch side of the buttons you need to solder too, you should be able to make the connection that way. you may want to use a resistor between the board and the transistor though.

Very good advice...........

The main issue which has been adressed above, is that the psp analog stick is just that ANALOG!  You are trying to replace the Dpad which is DIGITAL.  It has been suggested that you should use a RazorX board to convert the analog to digital.  RazorX is mechanical solution to the problem, however the boards can be hard to find these days.

Dubbed the beast is suggesting an electrical solution to the problem using transistors.  This is a good exercise but it may not be the simplest solution to the problem.  Different people would attack this problem differently, personally I would use a microcontroller, but if I had to do it digitally, I would op amps and possibly some inverters, to make compator circuits to provide the ground when a certain voltage threshold is met.

if you are interested in reading up on how to do conversion with transistors check out markolise's work from a while back, this was on a psp but the concept is solid https://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php/topic,33789.0.html

interesting link ghost, however i dont see where he was ever successful with implementing the transistor circuit.   He is almost there, using NPN and PNP for opposite directions, however I am not sure he actually made a working solution... and if he did his schematics are incorrect and he never posted it. (He got it half working but he was at a dead end with the way he was attempting it as I now see... wish i had seen the topic when he was here)

Op-AMP comparator circuits are a sure winner here.... i mean you can have hysterisis in the control and everything ;)

yes dave i did do this and here's the proof

clicky click

however as far as i can tell from the photos the main issue ur having is grounding....... well ur using a matrix pad well it looks like one to me.....(not that i can tell as the pics are dark) and matrix dont have common ground for the dpad or any of the controller really so theres ur problem..... start again on a cg 1 or 2 and it'll work fine as long as ur psp nub mod is good...... mine took a little tweakying to get working and feeling good.. but tis fine now....

if u are using a cg it will be ur modding of the nub... look at my thread and the thread linked in it and u'll find ya answers
