This thread is for my latest build "The Reaper" .
I have not done a console mod in a while but here we go again.
Plan is to do the build in 4 parts.
Part 1 Is the outer smoked Ps3 shell. I plan on back cutting the shell with a reaper design with a smoke back round. Also I plan on cutting out the PS logo and filling in the logo and any spots back cut all the way through, with acrylic resin. The resin will be pour into color sections so the blue resin will be separate from the red etc. I plan on placing the Leds from the sound reactive thing behind the reaper , back lighting it. With the control box and mic mounted under the cover where 60gb have card readers.

Part 2 is wiring the lighting. The smoke and the reaper will be lit up using this

And the Playstation logo will be lit up using a couple of these . Really only using the board so I might see if i can just get the board.

Then hook these up to the HDD light. Probably need to get a few LED's per letter.
Part 3 yet to be finalized but I want to vent the power supply differently, maybe fan it?

Part 4 Some sort of stand/charge/move/controller. Grave yard maybe. Fiberglass a stand that holds controllers , etc, I have an usb/external powered usb hub. Only one memory device recognized at a time . But I have 2 controllers and 1 nav/move setup. Maybe 2 tombstones , controllers in front and nav/move on top. And the move eye and a usb HDD. I only got a 4 port hub. Looks like I might need a 2nd hub. Nav/move has charge pins on the bottom no usb needed.
it would also be nice to house my usb external hdd In there too. Right now its out of the case because it over heats in there so I threw a giant heat sink on top of it for now. But maybe fan that too inside the charging stand.
Side note might need to light the usb ports so i can see them in the dark , I can never find the right hole.

New plan. Removing broken BR drive. Going to work on some sick stuff for in there. Found some sweet lil parts for the mod. Ill post some stuff with pics later. But I found a raid 0,1,etc 2x sata2.5" usb HDD enclosure. Thinking about that or a usb media card bay w 2.5" stata drive bay. I don't know yet. I have a whole liquid cooling system sitting around , I might liquid cool this beast. I'm up for suggestions.  Actually I could use some help deciding on which way to go with the mod?
check out this trick lil device. put this inside the lil cover where if it was a 60 gb would have media card readers.

Maybe this too.
BYTECC BT-M251-BK 2 x 2.5" Black USB2.0 & eSATA Drive Enclosure for SATA HDD/SSD, with RAID Switch
I think If I wanted to do a raid set up it would be raid sata to sata , not usb.
ie: more internal ps3 storage.

Or put this in the drive bay instead. I kinda like this one. And then find a raid setup for the internal drive. Akasa BayMaster Card & Drive Reader 2.5” SATA HDD / SSD Drive Dock

Last find I like this one too.
NEO I-NA205Ue2 Aluminum Alloy / Plastic 2.5" Black USB2.0 & eSATA External Hard Drive Enclosure

please thoughts?

Found some goodies in my neighbors parts box. I hooked up these 2 fan/heat sink combo's to the rom supply. Runs very quite and they blow out the side/top of PS3. I noticed from the "touch of the hand thermostat" The heat shield is much cooler and so are the back brackets for the cpu/gpu. I hooked up a molex to add to testing abilities. Its just a mock up test run. I did not drill the 2 holes in the back bracket to mount the fan/sink yet. The fan/sink has mount screws still in them on the chip side of the fan/sink. Mark out the screw pattern and drill holes. Screw the fan/sink down to the bracket . Then put the bracket back on the cpu/gpu. Done. Any idea's for thermal fill? the valley on the bracket is not very deep but I think it would have much better thermal transfer If the bracket met flush all the way on the bottom of the fan/sink.

I did some more mock up today to check for HDD locations and mounting possibilities.
here are my results. My thoughts on this are turning the drive slot into a HDD slot / intake vent. maybe find a 2.5" HDD cooler that the one fan can blow across .

Looks good so far, and I see that your are looking at different types of dvd players, I would look around and see if you could find a cheap used blu-ray player or blu-ray drive that reads different types of formats.

I have noticed alot of places like best buy and few other stores I got to  that have electronic applicances have refurbished or used stuff pretty cheap. That way you can still use the it as a blu-ray player, just an idea. something you might want to check in to.

So the plan is to buy 2 of the largest 2.5" hdd's i can find and hook them up through usb internally . 1 drive for My insane movie collection. The other for games. not raid. so i did some cutting today. These drives are just for mock up.
What do you think. I might try to find a second cover like the one on the left side of the ps3 to cover the drives.

this is just mock up. the drives slide into a sata usb tray. I want to find a 2nd cover like the one on the left and put it over the drives. I left them sticking out so i could remove them by hand.

The Ps3 is on CFW. Only way to play anything on this PS3 is from HDD. The BRdrive went in a fall.
I just found something really nice for the build.
Add aesthetically and adds easy drive swap.

Yeah i agree, having drives randomly popping out of there isn't ascetically appealing. That would be pro if you could pop those suckers in there any time you had to like 160GB SD cards except they're hard drives lol.

Wait so you could like hook up 1000 hard drives if you had enough usb hubs?

Well I have been able to only see one memory device on my hub when plugged into the ps3. But If I plug 1 usb HDD into 1 port directly into ps3 and 1 into hub. I see them both. But With the right hub possibilities are like 178 usb devices. don"t quote that #. checked its 127 devices max I've seen.

I made this clip this morning. This plugs right into the BRdrive power. This is so I don't have to modify my original BRdrive power harness .

Here is my work starting on the USB stuff. My daughter this morning broke my SD card reader , So I am going to internalize that to.

The last pic shows the USB hub stripped of its USB sockets. I am going to use MOBO style USB clips to connect to internal devices and USB sockets. There will be 4 front usb sockets and 1 rear.
Internal will have 1 SD card socket. 2 internal usb sata HDD's . Thats 8 USB slots. 2 hubs. 1 HDD per hub. 2 usb sockets per hub . and 1 hub will handle rear usb, while the other hub handles SD card. I know it makes things harder dividing the sockets up this way , but its the only way with the hubs I have to get both HDD's to be recognized at the same time. The rear USB is for my move camera. Also there will be some funny stuff going on with all the LED's for the different devices. Each hub has its own LED. I will use these 2 leds to back light the front usb ports . The HDD LED's will be connected to a RGB led. and depending on what hdd is working will light up accordingly . So when coping from USB HDD to internal HDD you would get a purple color. RED and BLUE. etc.
simple wiring diagram. Shows usb connections and led connections.

Thanks Hyper. I'm not wiring the data lines together. I am internalizing 2 hubs. I am putting one drive per hub.

I meant here for the activity LED, i'm probably wrong but i assumed this meant wiring the sata data lines from the hdds to the led so it flashes with activity....
