needing some help

 I just got this programmer from ebay the seller was sure electronics. It came with no software  so im not really sure how to set it up. or where to put the 12f683 if any one could help that would be great.

ok, this is a pickit 2 clone.

so you should be able to use this application to load hex codes

its a very simple application i'm sure you can work it out. (If not post here)

You want to connect the PicKit 2 to that board shown in your picture with the sockets on, the 12f683 should go at the very top of the top right ZIF socket in the picture with the notch on the 12f683 at the top.

Ok i have tried this a couple of times with no luck I have used an older verson of the pickit 2 software and have also used a different cable. It now is showing things I Have the device set to midrange and its showing unsupported part (ID+FFFF)  and when I hit erase, read or write i get unsupported part (ID=3FE0) also OSCCAL: invalid value.

top right? my8 pin is lower on the zif. there should be markings. I cant clearly see the board. I have a 40 pin socket so my 8 pin chip starts at center.

thats what i was saying, it sounds like you have the chip in the wrong slot, or backwards
