Ubisoft launching film studio
« on: May 02, 2011, 01:57:33 PM »

Game developer Ubisoft (famous for creating Assassins Creed and Prince Of Persia) is launching a new film studio dedicated completely to video game adaptations.

The Paris-based film division will be run by Jean-Julien Baronnet. And producer Didier Lupfer who is in charge of production and development, while Jean de Rivieres (former top honcho of distribution at Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures France) handles marketing and international sales.

It's a time where most of us could agree that video game movie franchises are crap. Although Ubisoft has lots to work with, and has proven that the job can be done well. Their Prince of Persia film adaptation grossed about 335 million dollars world wide, the highest gross income of any video game movie ever made.
So with properties like Splinter Cell, Assassin's Creed, and Ghost Recon doing so well, this might be a very fruitful venture for Ubisoft indeed.
