Audio Switching and Combining
« on: September 18, 2011, 08:47:52 AM »
I've got a switch just like this dude, and i really like the idea. I just cant find any circuits that look like they would work. (although i admit im not super well versed in audio circuitry.)

http://www.instructables.com/answers/How-can-i-make-a-audio-combining-circuit/

im looking to put the output into some computer speakers (headphone jack style)

Wow thats a nice n big rotary switch!

I'm not too clear about what you want to do exactly. But to switch between 2 sets of speakers... it can be done easily with two DPDT switches... you dont have to confuse yourself with the rotary switch.(they get confusing)

edit- i think i found exactly what you were looking for on the related insutructables ....

Actually, i was looking to change one output between three inputs and a combination of two of the inputs. the choices you could select being input A, B, A&B, C.
i dont know if there is a simple way, but i  want to make sure that none of the A&B output would be the same volume level as the A or B inputs (without having to change the volume on each device to do so, its going to be going through an amplifier so i dont want to blow my ears out when i switch to the combined setting)

im not shy of complicated circuits, but it seems like this shouldnt be too complicated, i just dont know how to do it

What was that you suggested in the shoutbox? i cant find it in there again.

Basically you want to calculate your resistors so you get a gain of about 1 so you won't have distortion.

This might help also. They use a switch like this to change pic-ups on guitars.
