Leds don´t turn on
« on: November 14, 2011, 09:17:04 AM »
Hi guys

A few days ago a friend tried to replace the leds of his controller but he didn´t get it. He broke the + pad of 4 player and player 2 its totally broken even the pcb. I suppose its led of player 2 wich cause the problem because now none of them turn on but the controller works perfectly. Here are some pics. There is any way to fix it?

Thanks in advance

all you have to do is follow the traces back to thier point of origin on the board and solder a wire from the point of origin to the side of the led that it needs to go to.

I have done it before but player 1 and 3 have the pads fine and dont turn on neither this is why I am confused

well if you follow the traces it will make sense.

All of the leds use the same trace for the negative side of the led.
so if the trace breaks further up the line then all of the leds attached to that will not work either.

Ok then, even 1 and 3 led player work fine I have to wire 4 new leds. Its right?

BTW, thanks

here is a pic of the led traces you need to follow.

just solder  the wire to the end of the led. and to the point of where it needs to go, this is a matrix controller so all postive ends go together.

Edit Solder the ground to the ground points and the postive to another led .

Good job, glad to see you got it fixed, not the pretties looking when we have to wire it that way, but hey it works and the controller is still useable . Its good when you can save things like this

fiberglass scratch pen do wonders when it comes to fixing traces let you remove the green protective coating so you can reveal the copper underneath you can get them at any locally hardware store autozone even radio shack there a bit pricey at radio shack
if any has a harbor fright tools around them they sell them for 2.99

I found it best to use some flux and make sure you got a sharp point on your soldering gun and keep adding solder to the spot your trying to get it to stick to.

Also scrap the coating with xacto blade or fiberglass pen to the copper is showing.

WOW you have severely over worked yourself, there was no need to jump every side of each led (unless you tore them all) you only needed 4 pieces of wire.

But regardless, you got it working.

I just wanted to ask where you get that thin diameter wire? I have been looking everywhere to find some, but here in sweden I am unable to find any.
