Thank you so much for adding those vias for the -050 and -055! How much is the SFX and how to I go about getting one if I?m considering it?

Also is there any way to know what JDM you get prior to buying a new DS4?

Sorry for all the questions but this is hopefully my last one for now. I keep seeing all the warnings about potentially damaging the vias when soldering. I recently modded a series x controller with four back buttons with what looks like to be similar sized and spaced vias and I didn?t have any issues. Are the ds4 vias known to be more sensitive and at higher risk of breaking when modding?

You're not going to know exactly what version it is until you're looking at it.

No idea why you'd solder to vias on the 1914 when it has TP spots for pretty much everything.

Hi all,

i have a DS4 using JDM-011 board. The PS button gets stuck randomly. i tried took everything apart and did the cleaning but it didnt help.
and sometimes it starts ok and after 10-20 presses it gets stuck again.
may i know which trace i should check for this issue? thanks a lot

Pad 10, goes to a jumper Resistor (0 ohm) that is just to the left of the oval hole there at pad 1. Then there is a Capacitor to ground on that line before it goes to the MCU.

Hi. I've got a JDS-030 DS4 controller that will not connect or charge through the micro USB port. I've replaced the USB board but I still have the same issue. The controller works wireless and will charge through the bottom port. I bought this used so I'm not sure what caused this issue. My guess is the previous owner used a fast charger on it. Anybody run across this issue before?

@ poot - The little 5 pin chip just under the connector for the cable that goes to the small USB board can go bad. It's a surge protection chip for the USB data lines and if it goes bad it will not connect over USB. You can remove it and test, not going to hurt it being off the board.

thanks for the response!
i removed the chip but still no connection. i'm assuming it's integral to the circuit because it won't connect with it off the board either. any idea what that transistor is? if it's possible to replace i'd give it a shot.

If it doesn't work with it missing, then replacing it isn't going to fix anything either. It's not 'in' the USB data lines, rather sits 'on' them, so removing it does nothing to the data lines except remove the protection. It's some kind of TVS or steering diode array, haven't been able to cross the markings on it for a comparison. There's probably a handful or more in that package that would do the job.

The smaller 4 pin device in pretty much the same location is a Common Mode choke, and that one is 'in' the data lines and needs to be on there to pass the signals thru.

I was trying to desolder the stupid tin-vibranium on the analogs and accidentally knocked this (I think it was a cap) off. I then foind it and promptly lost it again. Anyone know what it is, value and maybe where to find a replacement?

That's not the only Cap you've knocked off the board. Bottom right of your pic, another one is missing.

The one you have circled is just a decoupling Cap on the 3.2v rail, not going to hurt a thing with it missing. If you want to replace it you can really put anything in there form 1nF to 1uF and it will work.

The other one is 1uF, but that isn't a critical value either.

You're right I hadn't noticed! Actually, I have two boards because I was trying to make one working controller out of two. The other one is the one I actually ended uo assembling (so I took the circled cap and put it in the other but was allowing for the fact I might have soldered it wrong, considering how tiny it is)

I'll have to look better at the other under magnification to see if anything else looks off.

Currently, the controller turns on the charging light and seemingly turns on (or tries to at least), but doesn't connect to the console and/or fails in some way and no input is registered. When I press the PS button ( connected via USB), the light flashes somewhat rapidly and then goes back to the yellow charging light

Any idea what might cause that?

Just remove that Cap, a short there isn't going to do it any good and it will be fine missing.

Hey RDC, you seem to have all the answers, but I can?t find the one I?m looking for unless I?m missing something. Do you or anyone know where I can find a scan that details the touchpad solder points on either the pcb or the touchpad itself? I?d like to solder back buttons to different touchpad inputs and map them via ds4 windows. JDM-055. Thanks in advance!

The Touchpad does not work that way. It's an I2C device that the controller MCU communicates with to get the position it's being touched.

Alright, so unfortunately I?m stuck with just touchpad button that my remap kit is already programmed to, correct? I guess I?ll just make a back button that uses the PS button instead.
