Yes, that will damage it. It should not run at 60 Celsius normally, it should only get up to that temperature when the CPU is under alot of stress. Get some arctic sliver 5 and use that thermal paste instead

My old pentium D ran over 60C with the stock cooler. I replaced the cooler and it ran a little lower. Then I replaced with a $60 cooler and it ran at 40C idle and 50 C load.

Under load, your CPU should be running at 60 C max. Currently mine only gets to about 43 under load. Get a better heatsink and possibly add another fan.

If you let it run that hot you'll end up ruining your CPU and maybe even the mobo. Was it runnin that hot before you replaced it? Did you clean it before putting on the new paste? Maybe you should just reseat the thing, bad placement happens once in awhile. Spend the 12 bucks and get AS 5 by the way.

:D I'm running with an AMD athlon and i have removed the heat sink many times fo various time periods and conditions ,never replaced the paste but it still work's well.I dunno what kind of paste it is but i dont think that anything can damage it or make i obsolete(exept washing it off of course).I'm always running at 34 Cell  39 Cell max.Thou the place where the heat sink attaches broke and now gravity is holding it in place. :D

yeah thats true, but at the same time its the difference between a racing motor and a regular motor, sure if you redline the cars (over 100C on a CPU)  they'll both blow up, but the regular car will have a longer lifespan

60C is nothing to worry about, and i wish people would learn this.

You dont need to be worried until 75C +
